December is BINGO'S Birthday Month!
Share a variety of books with your students by creating a winter-reading Bingo card. Pinterest has some great ideas and examples.
December 1 is Eat a Red Apple Day
Search EBSCO's Health Information Collection for "apple." Narrow your results by Subject on the left. Narrow first by apples and then by Nutrition. Find the articles explaining the benefits of eating an apple a day.
December 7 is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Pearl Harbor was the site of a surprise attack on the United States on December 7, 1941. Search for Pearl Harbor in World Book Advanced. World Book Advanced not only has an article but has images, videos, and audio. Hear President Roosevelt's response to the attack on Pearl Harbor.
December 8 is National Brownie Day
Search your online catalog for cookbooks. 641.5 in the nonfiction section is a good place to start. You can also try searching INFOhio's ISearch. Perform a search for brownie recipe. The Basic sources tab lists a recipe for Rocky Road Brownies. Click on the Advanced Sources tab and narrow your search on the left by subject. Selecting "brownies (cooking)" will find a recipe for Ultimate Brownies from Good Housekeeping.
December 8 is also "Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day"
Time travel has always captured our imagination. Search your library's online catalog for books about time travel. Samples of books about time travel are displayed below.
Make your own gifts for friends and family
A new resource to INFOhio this year is Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center. Search for a topic, browse by category or peruse the Popular Sources for how-to's and step-by-step instructions.
Write thank you notes for holiday gifts received
Turn to ISearch for help. Perform a search for "write thank you notes." If needed, narrow your search by a subject such as thank-you notes or etiquette.
