Happy Holidays!
As the close of 2020 draws near, the staff at Grand Forks Central High School would like to wish all a joyous and peaceful holiday season. Our hope is that all find comfort in the blessings of life during this time, while supporting those in need around us.
Our next edition of the Knight News will be available the week before our hybrid learners return to Central on January 4, 2021.

Athletic Fan Attendance Guidelines
GFPS fan attendance guidelines are based on the daily risk level as determined by Grand Forks County Health on the Grand Forks County Health Dashboard (NOT the North Dakota DoH dashboard) two days prior to the date of the contest. *Gymnastics fan limits are still pending.*.
As of today - December 11 - Grand Forks County is at the orange level. Please check the GF County Dashboard link to see current levels.
Risk Level Red:
- No fans allowed at any event.
Risk Level Orange:
- Two family members per GFPS participants only will be allowed at all events except swimming (no fans).
Risk Level Yellow:
- Two family members per all participants (GFPS and visiting teams) will be allowed at all events, depending on venue-specific capacity limits, except swimming.
Risk Level Green:
- Fan attendance capped at 50% of the venue capacity.
Fan Ticketing Procedures (Orange and Yellow Level):
Boys & Girls Basketball, Girls Hockey, and Wrestling - family members (2) of participants will check in at the ticket table.
Boys Hockey - players will get wristbands (2) for each contest from their coaches to be distributed to family members for games at Purpur Arena.
* Fans must pay for admittance (wristbands do not signify payment).
*All fans must wear masks and should sit as family units physically distant from other families. Our ability to adhere to these safety protocols is integral to keeping family members in the stands.

Senior Cap and Gown Orders
We are accepting late orders through December 15th. All orders must be in by that date!
Please contact Mrs. Wilcox in the main office with any questions.
Collegebound Seniors!
Please use some of your at home learning time to apply for scholarships. It is essential to pursue “Institutional Scholarships”. These are offered by the college you plan to attend. Many colleges are offering scholarships this year not based on ACT scores, but rather GPA, high school and community involvement, and demonstration of strong character traits. There are some scholarships based on first generation status, which is defined by not having a parent with a 4-year degree. Please check with your parents! If they have two-year degrees, you still qualify as a 1st generation college student.
Some colleges will use your freshman admission application to enter your name automatically in scholarship pools. HOWEVER, there are some scholarship applications that you need to submit separately from your admissions application. Deadlines for some of these scholarships are January 1 or February 1. Deadlines for returning students may be later, so please look carefully for freshman deadlines. Please check your colleges’ webpage for more info. I advise calling colleges and asking to speak to an admission counselor to describe your particular situation. Remember that many colleges use the “first-applied, first-awarded” procedure.
Check the GFC counseling page for a listing of scholarships as well. Start on GFC homepage; under about our school, drop down to Counseling Program & Career Center; click current scholarship listing. Please contact Ms. Loftus with questions.
Influential Factors
One of the most influential factors during a child’s adolescence are maintaining a strong, open relationship with a parent/guardian. When we each create supportive and nurturing environments, children make better decisions. Though it may not always seem like it, children hear concerns, which is why it’s important that parents/guardians discuss the risks of using alcohol and other drugs. How do you start the conversation? Visit www.parentslead.org.
