Happy Valentine's Week!
Dear Cougar Family,
Having small children in my household makes every holiday take on new grandeur. Yesterday, I mentioned to Walt that Valentine's Day is coming up this week. That led to him asking me, "Is it Valentine's Day yet?" approximately every 30 minutes for the rest of the weekend. When I asked him what happened on Valentine's Day, he couldn't tell me, but his eyes sparkled with enthusiasm.
What does this have to do with what we do each day in our school? Nothing, on the surface, but it does make me think of the enthusiasm and motivation that comes from novelty. We get excited about holidays--like Valentine's Day--because they happen once a year. They are special.
- How can you capitalize on novelty in your classroom?
- What is something that was once novel to your students that has now become "old hat"?
- How can you make your classes more engaging this week?
May you all have an amazing week full of chocolate and happiness (and a few giggles from the video below)!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Reminders for ARDs and 504s
- Respond to the calendar invite. Attendance is not optional. We need for the teachers to check the calendar invitation to allow Lori Reismeier to check where to send the substitute and allow us to know they are attending. Also, if the teacher is unable to attend they need to contact Marta Swanner or Janell Crum to let us know because trying to find a teacher at the last minute is very difficult and time consuming.
- Complete the teacher information pages thoroughly & in a timely manner. We require teacher information regarding each student to be able to have the necessary information allowing the committee members to help the student more efficient in their academic endeavors.
- Sign your forms & implement immediately. It's the law. After having the meeting, SPED V.O.M.s and 504 V.O.A.s are sent to each teacher and staff to inform them of the changes in designated services and/or modifications. It is difficult to send those forms when the teachers do not check their faculty boxes or sign and return the folders containing the forms in a timely manner. The law states that each teacher needs to know and follow the requirements of each student and that there be a legal form indicating that they receive the forms.
