Bransford Blast

April 23, 2017

This week our Texans learned about the importance of being good stewards of resources, recycling, and reusing through the school-wide recycling competition, presentations from Joan U'ilani Meeks, and recycled art project with Mr. Hughes. A BIG thank you to Andrea Hickson for organizing such an engaging Earth Week for our Texans! Thank you to 5th grader Ashwin for organizing the Kicks for Kids community service project!

In addition to Earth Week, our Texans took a step back in time on Friday to the fabulous 50's! While at school, the students danced the day away, competed in the limbo, and had a costume contest. Thank you Mrs. Atkins and Mrs. Apodaca for the fantastic 50's fun! Thank you to all who joined us for the annual BES Sock Hop on Friday night! This great family event was made possible because of the dedication of our parent volunteers. Thank you Jill Tate and Angela Greenlaw for leading the sock hop committee!

This week we will meet our newest Texans as we open our doors on Tuesday evening for Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-Up. This event is another showcase of our wonderful community as students and parents will serve as tour guides, PTA will welcome our families, and a meet and greet is planned for after the event. Talk about a Texas sized welcome!

If your schedule is open on Friday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m., join us for the BES April pep rally. Our pep rally's afford a time to celebrate our Texans. In addition to recognizing our Portrait of a Graduate students, we will have a special guest from Texas PTA to recognize our campus the Platinum Voice for Every Child Award. This award recognizes campus that have one voice for every child on the campus. What an incredible testament to the dedication our community feels for being involved!

Join us on Saturday at the Rachel's Challenge Rally! Students can participate in the 5K free of charge, see below for more details. This wonderful GCISD event celebrates all campus's dedication to character education and starting a chain reaction.

Have a wonderful week!

Student Class Placements

In the coming weeks, we will begin to develop our class lists for next school year. In creating these lists we take into account district guidelines and keep in mind the need to create a balanced classroom for our terrific Texans. This process involves multiple variables. Below you will find some of the variables we will consider as we develop class lists for the 2017- 2018 school year:

· Gender balance

· Academic mix

· Personality and learning styles

· Peer relationships

· Class size

· Special needs

The objective is to place all students with a teacher in a balanced class that will support individual learning and growth. At Bransford, we are very fortunate to have an exceptional group of teachers and staff to work with our students and families.

Families have the optional opportunity to fill out a student class information form. This form will NOT be used for requesting a teacher, but will give you a chance to share valuable information about your child. There will also be a spot for your child to share. We will NOT be honoring specific teacher requests. The form will be available in the office to families April 27 - May 5. Completed forms will be accepted until Monday, May 8 at 7:45 a.m.

Final class lists will be posted at meet the teacher night on Monday, August 14, 2017.
