Room 26 Weekly News
January 12-15, 2016
Greetings
Thank you so very much for the gift cards, goodies, and thoughtful gifts you gave me for the holidays. I am touched by your kindness and generosity! I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed every moment with your friends and family! I loved getting to spend time with my family and had a fantastic time skiing in all that fresh snow in Big Bear! As fun as the break was, though, I am excited to see the students' smiling faces tomorrow morning and looking forward to getting back on schedule!
Academic Updates
Language Arts
Our primary focus this week will be on citing, paraphrasing, and synthesizing evidence from texts when writing informative or opinion essays. We will also begin reading novels in our D.I.R.T. rotations to correspond with our upcoming Social Studies unit on the Revolutionary War.
Math
Students will review key skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions this week in preparation for our upcoming district math assessment.
Writing
Students will be writing opinion essays using the "cite-paraphrase-synthesize" skills we have been working on in class.
Social Studies
Students will be working on a colonial brochure project as they research and learn about the American Colonies.
Science
We will be beginning our unit on Body Systems this week. This unit will culminate in a wonderful owl pellet dissection project. More information will be coming home about that later!

Reminders & Notes
Student Council Speeches
Students who wish to run for class representative for the Student Council should prepare a speech this week. Class elections will be held this Friday.
Wishlist
Our classroom is in need of baby wipes. With no sink in the room, the wipes are very helpful, and we are almost out. If you are at the store this week and would be willing to donate some wipes to the class, it would be greatly appreciated!!
