This Week's Learning Topics
Math Topics
Standards:
4.MD.7 Recognize angle measure as additive. When an angle is decomposed into non-overlapping parts, the angle measure of the whole is the sum of the angle measures of the parts. Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram in real world and mathematical problems, e.g., by using an equation with a
symbol for the unknown angle measure.
"I Can" Statement:
I can solve addition and subtraction equations to find unknown angle measurements on a diagram.
What will we learn? When using a protractor place the vertex at the center point and place one ray along the horizontal edge. The angle is measured by finding where the second ray intersects the arc of the protractor. When drawing an angle the process is just the opposite. Draw a ray and place the center of the protractor on the endpoint and mark off the points of the angle measure. Use the straightedge of the protractor to connect point to the vertex. Essential vocabulary for this standard includes: protractor, degree, and vertex

Reading Topics
RL.4.10 - By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, in the grades 4-5 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
"I Can" Statement:
I can use reading strategies to comprehend a text.
What will we learn? Students will be working on testing strategies for reading comprehension. We will be using these strategies to pace ourselves through reading texts for the remainder of the year. We will be taking a benchmark next week in reading.
