#SCCSD MAPEH Newsletter
TK-12 Music, Art, Physical Education & Health - October 2017
The "Why"
This is the third in an ongoing series of newsletters to communicate information with our TK-12 Art, Music, Physical Education and Health Educators.
Coaching
Are you trying to figure out how to meet one of your standards? Are you struggling to figure out how to assess your student's growth? Do you know how to use the data that you have gathered from student assessments? How are you designing your lessons for student growth? How are you reaching your students that have achieved the standards? How are you reaching your students that struggle? I would love to be another set of eyes and ears in the room to help your reflective practice for students. Please use this link to let me know how we can work together to advance our students skills. - Pat

Sioux City Schools named 2017 Best Community for Music Education
Midbell Music honored our district for its 2017 Best Community for Music Education distinction. Midbell presented the district with a plaque for the central office, framed posters honoring each music program in every building and a $1500 donation to our instrument repair fund. We are grateful for the partnership!
Community Engagement
Throughout the year, I engage in many conversations regarding opportunities for partnerships between Sioux City Community Schools, our Sioux City Community, and our state.
Leon Kuehner, Executive Director Iowa Alliance for Arts Education
I had the opportunity to invite Leon to visit our A+ School, Hunt this past year while working in Des Moines on the Fine Arts Standards. This past week he visited Hunt and we had some fantastic discussions regarding arts and the core and advocacy at the state level for our Sioux City students.
Partnership with Morningside
This past week students participated in a drum clinic at Morningside as part of an ongoing partnership.
Link Up with Carnegie Hall and Sioux City Symphony
Our students are partnering with Carnegie Hall and the Sioux City Symphony to take part in an interactive performance "The Orchestra Sings". Students will be performing with the orchestra from their seats through singing, moving and playing their recorders.
Elementary Music Curriculum Adoption
We were so fortunate to have a team that worked so diligently to unpack the standards and develop curriculum for our elementary music educators both in the general music classroom and in 5th-grade band. Through this hard work, our Board of Directors approved the Elementary Music Curriculum Adoption this fall. Throughout this year, I will be showcasing the work of the adoption. This is incredible for our students and the impact it will have on their lives through music.
Rite Wilder spent four days with our 5th/6th-grade band educators and students training them on best practice in beginning band education as part of the elementary music adoption.
