Evergreen Express
December 2019 - Issue 32
Principal's Message
Dear Evergreen Elementary Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break with your families. We have three short weeks until Winter Break, and time is going to fly by! Please note that we do not have school on Friday, December 20th. School resumes on Monday, January 6, 2020. If you will be taking a vacation for 5 days or longer on either side of the break, please visit the office to obtain an independent study packet from Ms. Linda.
Holiday Shop
We are really hoping to have our annual Holiday Shop open for our students this year. Last year, we struggled with filling all of our volunteer slots and the shop was a bit hectic. If we don't fill all slots, we will either need to modify the amount of days we can be open or cancel all of the days. Please sign up to volunteer using this link:

Safe School Ambassadors Program
I am very pleased to announce that Evergreen has been awarded with a $6,000 grant from Community Matters to implement the Safe School Ambassadors program! Implementing this program was a recommendation from the Evergreen Whole School Climate 360 team that consisted of staff members and parents. This program with tie in perfectly with our Restorative Culture and Evergreen Expectations. In February 2020, we will be training a group of 4th and 5th grade students to become our first Safe School Ambassadors. Here is more information about the Safe School Ambassadors program:

Open Enrollment Window/Evergreen School Tours
CRPUSD's Open Enrollment Window is from January 6th-February 28th, 2020. If your child is currently attending Evergreen and you wish to continue at Evergreen for 2020-2021, you don't need to do anything during Open Enrollment. You will fill out an Intent to Return form in early Spring 2020.
Here are some other Frequently Asked Questions about Open Enrollment and registration for the 2020-2021 school year:
What if I have another child to enroll at Evergreen for 2020-2021?
Please enroll during the Open Enrollment Window. If you live out of the CRPUSD attendance boundaries, you will need to visit our Student Services Offices at 7165 Burton Avenue to obtain an Inter-District Transfer Form.
What do I need to bring to register my child for TK or Kindergarten?
Please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate, proof of residency (utility bill, rental agreement, mortgage bill), and vaccination record to the Evergreen office. Ms. Rochelle will begin accepting TK/Kindergarten enrollment applications at 8:30am on Monday, January 6, 2020.
What are the birthdates for TK?
Students with a September 2-December 2, 2015 birthdate will be enrolled in TK for the 2020-2021 school year.
Evergreen did not have TK this year. Will you have TK for 2020-2021?
We are hoping to have TK at Evergreen next year, but it all depends on how many TK eligible students enroll during the Open Enrollment period. If we have enough students to fill a full class, we will have TK at Evergreen for 2020-2021.

Walk-a-Thon Updates
We raised an unbelievable amount of money this year for our Walk-a-Thon. Our school goal was $35,000 and we have raised $47,111.25 to date! All of these donations will go directly back to our Evergreen students. I want to personally thank our Walk-a-Thon Coordinator Denise Miller and our entire PTA Board for their endless work in coordinating both our Walk-a-Thon, as well as our Walk-a-Thon Reward Party. Both events were huge successes and we are so thankful for all of their efforts!
Warm regards,
Jen Hansen
Principal
Bobcat Box of Brilliant Ideas
As part of our Whole School Climate 360 recommendations, our team felt that it was important for students, families, and community members to have a way to communicate suggestions and ideas to make Evergreen an even better place. We asked our students to name the box because "Comment Box" seemed a little boring :) Congratulations to fourth grade Scout Nelson for coming up with the very appropriate name "Bobcat Box of Brilliant Ideas." It is located in the office hallway by the PTA board. We encourage you to fill out a comment or talk to us in person... we love your ideas and feedback!

President's Message:
Happy December Bobcats! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and you were all able to spend time with family and loved ones during the week off from school. We have a short month in front of us with the Winter Break coming up. I hope to see a lot of you at Bingo night on December 12th from 6pm-7pm and features local celebrity Mr. Cutler calling numbers for us all night.

Communication
Communicating effectively with families is incredibly important to our school. We will utilize several methods to communicate with families: Parent Messaging through our student information system PowerSchool, Facebook, the Evergreen Elementary website, and our Evergreen Express newsletter. Here is how to access all of that information:
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CRPUSDEvergreen/ This is our public Facebook page where updates will be posted.
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/evergreen.crpusd/ This is a closed Facebook group for Evergreen families and staff only. Please request to join this group if you have not done so already.

Evergreen Express Newsletter: The Evergreen Express will be sent on a monthly basis.
Restorative Room
Restorative Practices Family Corner
It is our goal to inspire Evergreen families to implement Restorative Practices at home. A great place to have restorative conversations is around the dinner table.
December Question of the Month: "If you could have a face to face conversation with anyone, who would it be and why?"
Good luck!
