5th Grade Field Trip - Dallas Arboretum
We are going to the Dallas Arboretum on Thursday, November 16th and will send field trip forms Monday!
We need to get a count now of how many 5th grade students and chaperones plan on attending ASAP so we have created this Google Form: https://goo.gl/forms/9tPX7B4pgKxNDqQ13 for you to fill out. You will simply fill out your child's name and class information, give a quick "yes" or "no" on whether your child will be attending, and if you would like to be a chaperone.
We really need these counts by Tuesday. Chaperones: if you do not notify us by Tuesday, you will still be able to join us at the arboretum but will need to purchase your own ticket at the door.
We appreciate you quickly getting this back to us! :-)

Student-Led Conferences
Thursday, November 2 is an early dismissal day, with students being released at 11:45. GCISD has set up these early dismissal days in order for teachers to facilitate student-led conferences. The purpose of student-led conferences is for students to discuss with you what they are working on in school, and to review their SMART goals.
During the conference with your child, there could be several other students and their parents conferring as well. I will be available to provide clarification and detail if necessary, review data, and answer all of your questions. Please note that this is not a traditional parent-teacher conference. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress in more detail in a private setting, please schedule a conference for another day at your convenience.
Please feel free to drop in for your student-led conference at your convenience between 12:30 and 3:30. You should expect to stay approximately 30 minutes. The students are very excited about sharing their progress with you. Thank you for your help; we are looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Innovation Begins with Growth Mindset
We found this article, discussing a podcast by Microsoft a great reminder about the importance of growth mindset fostering innovation. We have found that fixed mindsets can hinder students from out-of-the box thinking. We hope you found the podcast valuable!

The next SAGE event coming up is November 7th. There is some good info especially for parents who are new to the GT world.
