Odds & Ends
Sight Word Lists: Each quarter we assess the students on reading a list of common words, also known as sight words. For more information and a list of the words, please click here: Monthly Sight Word Lists.
Homework: Second graders are expected to read regularly, review addition and subtraction facts 0-20, and practice quarterly sight words and weekly spelling words at home. There is no tracking sheet to turn in to show time spent on these activities, but they will add greatly to a student's academic successes throughout the year.
Spelling words for the following week are shared in each weekly newsletter. After introducing words on Monday, students practice them in class throughout the week. Each week, there is a pre-test on Wednesday and a final spelling test on Friday.
To assess our learning target of being able to fluently add and subtract 0-20, students take a daily timed test. There are 25 problems to answer in two minutes. To print flash cards for your child to use at home, click here: http://www.dadsworksheets.com/worksheets/printable-flash-cards.html
