The Alabama Literacy Act has many parent resources for you to access. The linked image above will take you to The Alabama Family Guide for Student Reading Success. This resource is written for families whose child is showing a deficiency in reading, however I believe it is a great resource for all families. If you are looking for some fun activities to do with your K-3rd children to help them become better readers, this is a great place to start.
District Equity and Educational Initiatives October Update
Equity and Educational Initiative Mission
Provide an inclusive and equitable educational experience to all students where they see themselves in the classroom, curriculum, and extracurricular activities.
Equity and Educational Vision
We must encourage and empower all of our students to go forward in life in pursuit of their dreams. We must commit not only to confront challenges, but also to create solutions that have a long-lasting impact with equitable change. This will include increasing our empathy and understanding of someone else's experiences and respecting our diversity.
We will commit to a culture that reflects, respects and embraces the voices, perspectives, and differences arising from our diverse community. Hoover is a diverse community - and the school system reflects that rich diversity. We must ensure that the experiences provided within the school system reflect the voices of our diverse student population.

Hoover City Schools Equity Core Beliefs
You can find HCS Core Beliefs here on the District website.
School Equity Goal
Each school will create an action plan to provide all students with an equitable and diverse experience as it relates to discipline reporting, curriculum, and extracurricular offerings.
Diverse Literature Initiative
This committee is actively reviewing additional books to provide schools with diverse literature options.
Elam Leadership Institute Equity of Effort™
A theoretical framework leads to a transformative process of thinking differently about what educators need to know and be able to do, to help all groups of students reach high academic outcomes. This framework will guide Hoover City Schools’ diversity efforts.
kids mercedes marathon
february 20, 2021
The Kids Mercedes Marathon is a HUGE deal in the Greystone P.E. department and school wide as well!! We average around 150 students running in this event each year. Many of them started participating in Kindergarten. Greystone is going to be a participant this year. We will be making a few changes. I have listed the few changes that are necessary for this year's run.
* All runners must register online.
* Runners must keep their own running log and all running for the Kids Marathon will be done at home under parent supervision. Students will not run their required 25.2 miles at school this year.
* Runners may turn in their running log to me or Coach Rand or turn into the Mercedes office. Information regarding this is on their website.
* During January look for all updated information regarding packet-pick-up.
If you would like to register go online to mercedesmarathon.com. Click on races, scroll down to Kids Marathon. The deadline to register is November 15, 2020.
Please let me and Coach Rand know that you are participating in the Kids Marathon. We are still putting our "running tennis shoe" with your name on the wall. We would love to be your biggest cheerleader while you are running your miles from now until you run your last mile on February 20.
Happy Running! Leta Hoit (lhoit@hoover.k12.al.us)
