RtI Update Meetings

All teachers will need to meet in Room 3 during conference time on Monday for RtI updates. You will be printing your RtI Progress Monitoring to be approved and sent home to parents during this meeting.

Make sure you bring any student reports or data so you can complete the progress monitoring at this time! If you are already done with progress monitoring in Eduphoria for the 3rd six weeks and have set goals/interventions for the 4th six weeks, we will just check your students and you will be free to go.

Reading Night Planning Meeting

Anyone who is interested in helping with reading night is invited to attend our Family Reading Night meeting on Tuesday, January 9 at 3:30 pm in Room 3. Our annual reading night will be during the week of Valentine's Day. Our theme is "Falling in LOVE with a Great Book!" Please send Mrs. Helton your ideas for the night by adding them to the Google Doc below:

House Parties

House Parties will be during specials on Wednesday. Teachers are invited to attend, but it's not mandatory. Specials teachers will be supervising students during the House Party and then returning to specials class if there is time remaining. Awards will be in your boxes that afternoon.

Bring your students to the GYM on Wednesday so we can get House Parties started on time.

Bonus points for the teams with the most spirit! Staff and students may wear jeans with their House tshirt that day!

UIL

UIL Team Rosters are due to Mrs. Helton by Thursday, January 11. Just email your 3 names + alternate. Mrs. Helton will then give you a form letter to send home to parents.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the UIL Meet on Saturday, January 20 at University High School. If you can help out, even just for an hour, we would appreciate your help! Email Mrs. Helton if interested. UIL Coaches are expected to attend the event.

Planning PLC

Ms. York will be here on Friday, January 12 for a planning PLC. Bring your blue binder and laptop. Be prepared to discuss and share the strategies you have been using to increase student communication and higher order thinking.

From Your Captain

Email Mrs. Logan with the name of your favorite book by next Friday. We are going to be using the titles to create a book display.

See email from Mrs. Logan regarding UHS students. We still have many students that need to be placed. Your kids would love having a few minutes to read with them or do other work with these high schoolers.

Campus policy requires staff to check their mailboxes DAILY. Time-sensitive materials like report cards and newsletters are not going home on designated days. Make sure you are checking your box (and cleaning it out!) daily.

Here is a great article about ways to increase student achievement with simple words: http://ajjuliani.com/empower-students-one-simple-phrase-can-boost-student-effort-40/

January Makerspace

This month, we will be reading Galimoto. This is a precious book about a boy in Malawi, Africa that uses wires and other things he finds to create a motorcar. It's a great lesson on being thankful for the blessings we have in the US. It also teaches perseverance and resourcefulness.

The Makerspace challenge will have students design a new toy using only Legos. You can view the lesson plans here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18TbVAoOnVZ6WQi5dn7AzrWAqTqRTPMbRz1w4AQ-rid8/edit?usp=sharing

Starting this month, Mrs. Helton will be doing more math interventions, so she will not be as available to do the activity with your class. However, the lesson is simple and easy to follow and adapt to fit the needs of your class. Plus, there is NO PREP! Please send Mrs. Helton a time to reserve the cart.

Conscious Discipline

Weekly Commitment: We will be safe by following the teacher's directions.

GT Nominations

The window for GT Nominations for Kindergarten is open NOW until January 31. Teachers in grades 2-5 can also nominate students through February 28, but students won't be served until next school year.

College & Career Month

This month we are celebrating college and career readiness! We encourage you and your students to discuss college and career during the month. Your class can earn House Points this month by doing activities related to career and college readiness (IE: door decoration or hallway work displayed, college/career project, special speaker, etc). Just email Mrs. Helton with your activity to earn points.
