Message from the Health Office
The health office is running low on the supply of sweatpants. If your child(ren) have outgrown last year's pants please consider sending them into the health office. Sweat or stretchy pants only and smaller sizes are the greatest need.
Related to COVID-19 Safety Protocols
I want to thank all the Nixon families who are following the COVID-19 safety protocols we have in place. I greatly appreciate all the phone calls from families requesting symptom guidance. Everyone in the SPS system is working hard to keep your children as safe as possible.
I would like to ask everyone to continue "doubling down" over these next few weeks/months leading up to the holiday season and families will be gathering often with older family members. It is difficult to take your child for COVID-19 testing when it very likely is an illness that in other non-pandemic years you would consider quite minor. Please report ALL symptoms accurately on the absentee line. However inconvenient, if your child has had symptoms and later converts to a positive case, it becomes very inconvenient to other families whose children have become close contacts and must then quarantine and alter their schedules for 7 days.
There has been a spread of COVID-19 in families, even among vaccinated adults, and your actions will help protect all.
Here is the full list of symptoms for which parents/guardians should monitor their children and themselves.
If an individual is vaccinated and experiences any of the symptoms in BOLD they need to get a COVID test, (PCR or antigen as long as it generates a report), or MD’s note stating the symptoms are not COVID-19 related.
If an individual is unvaccinated they will need a COVID test, (PCR or antigen as long as it generates a report), or a note from an MD if they have any of the symptoms in BOLD or two or more of the remaining symptoms.
Please forward test results/MD documentation to the health office before returning to school. When calling in on the absentee line please do not state illness but give a complete list of the student’s symptoms.
Covid-19 Symptom Checklist
Fever (100.0 Fahrenheit or higher, (chills or shaking chills)
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
New loss of taste or smell
Muscle aches or body aches
Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough)
Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea when in combination with other symptoms
Headache, when in combination with other symptoms
Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms
Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms (Please note allergies need to have been documented in the health record in order to be accepted as an alternate diagnosis.)
We are all in this together, it is still a global pandemic. Let’s not let up until this is over.
Many thanks,
Anne Chabot, R.N.
