Spirit Shack at EVC
The Spirt Shack is all about a reward system for students. It teaches students how to handle their earned points. They can earn points for wearing their school IDs’, being responsible for getting to class on time, and having no missing assignments. Students are able to exchange points for items. Items could include gum, chapsticks, chips, hats, school supplies.
Mr. Hevland (assistant principal at East Valley Central) said he had thought about a Spirit Shack last year back in 2018 and had planned on opening it in 2019. The Spirit Shack opens at 7:25 AM. Mr. Hevland stated ,”If the Spirit Shack continues to thrive then it will be upgraded with better features and choices.”
What inspired the Spirit Shack ? Mr. Hevland knew that kids liked to exchange things and he wanted to make school more exciting for students while rewarding students for taking care of themselves and being responsible.
We interviewed some of the Life Skill students who are in charge of "The Shack" and they really enjoy it. Students help at "The Shack" by handing out the merchandise and helping customers. The Spirit Shack is great! It allows students to interact with each other , earn rewards and feel good about their choices and their school.
