What is heat exhaustion?

Heat exhaustion is the body's response to the loss of water and salt, usually through excessive sweating.

Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion

  • Heavy Sweating
  • Extreme Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Nausea
  • Clammy, Moist skin
  • Pale or flushed complexion
  • Muscle cramps

First Aid Treatment

  1. Have the victim rest in a cool, shaded or air conditioned area.
  2. Loosen victims clothing
  3. Have victim drink plenty of water or sports drink
  4. Have victim take a cool shower, bath or apply cool wet cloths

Prevention

  • Wear loose fitting light colored clothes
  • Avoid Sunburn
  • Seek a cool place
  • Drink plenty of fluids
