Boonsboro Middle School

Connect! Inspire! Achieve!

Welcome Back

We are looking forward to the first day of school on September 5, 2017. This newsletter has some additional information that we hope you will find useful. This week teachers have been preparing their classrooms for the upcoming school year. We are very excited to meet our sixth grade students and to see our retuning seventh and eighth grade students. It is going to be a great school year!

Transportation Information

Bus Information:

There is a Quick Link, “School/Stop Information” on the WCPS website that will take parents to a screen where they can enter their childs’s grade and home address to obtain bus stop information. For your convenience the link is also listed below. In addition, bus information has been printed and posted at Boonsboro Middle School.

Parent Drop/Off and Pickup

Our doors do not open until 8:15 am. Please do not drop off your child before 8:15 as we do not have staff on duty and therefore are unable to supervise any students. In the afternoon, parent pick ups are dismissed at 3:30. Parents generally line up in the staff parking lot and students will use the cross walk when crossing the bus lane. Walkers are also dismissed at 3:30.

Additional Information

As you are aware, traffic can be extremely heavy throughout the school year. This is especially true during the first few weeks of school. We dismiss at the same time as the high school and that means over 1600 students are leaving our campus at the same time. Please have patience with us as we work with the high school to get into a routine. For our sixth grade parents the biggest help you can give us is to review your child’s bus information with them before the start of the school year.

MEET THE TEACHER NIGHTS

Sixth Grade Parents and Guardians September 6, 2017 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm

Seventh Grade Parents and Guardians September 7, 2017 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm

The format will be the same as last year. There will be two administrative presentations in the auditorium. Parents and students will have the opportunity to attend one of those presentations and then students will have the opportunity to escort their parents around the building to meet with teachers. Due to the limited amount of time and the number of classes a middle school student has, there are no formal teacher presentations that night. We hope you will be able to join us.

Ipad Insurance

Students will receive their iPad the first day of school. If you have not done so already, please make sure you enroll for i-coverage. Washington County Public Schools has a webpage that answers questions about i-coverage and provides parents with additional resources. The link is below to this page is below.

PARCC Results

On September 8th your son or daughter will recieve their PARCC scores from their Math and ELA teacher. While Boonsboro Middle School exceeded county, state, and national averages, we have some additional work to do to get our students ready for high school and beyond. When the report comes home, please take the time to review this report with your child. If you have additional questions, the website understandthescore.org is a helpful place to start. We will also share some information at our meet the teacher nights.

Boonsboro Middle School is Gold Again

Over the summer we were informed that Boonsboro Middle School has earned Gold PBIS Status for the eighth year. We know that we would not have earned this status without the support of students and parents. Thank you for all that you do!

Absences and Early Dismissals

If your child is tardy to school, has an early dismissal, or absence, please send a note to school with your child explaining the reason. Be specific by stating if it is a medical appointment or illness on your note. Your child should report to Mrs. Deatrich in the main office who will give them a slip to show to their teachers. We have streamlined our service and students will show their early dismissal notes to their teacher and be able to leave at their appropriate dismissal time. The students are expected to report to the main office for dismissal. This will also save the parent time and will not disrupt the learning environment.

If an emergency arises or your child has a last minute medical appointment, simply bring an early dismissal note with you when picking up your child. You may also write one when you enter the main office.
