Class Placement Letter
It is now the time of year when the placement of K-4 children must be considered for the next school year. When creating classes, we consider academic strengths and needs of all children as well as social strengths and needs of all children to create gender balanced classrooms of equal numbers. We have devised a thorough process for determining a child's placement. Our placement process is outlined below.
If you have information you wish to share concerning your child, please complete a Parental Placement Information form no later than the second week in April. It is linked below. Rather than requesting specific teachers, we welcome any remarks which address your child's academic and social needs and strengths. We value parents' opinions in the decision-making process. However, in keeping with past practice, best educational practice, and to ensure the integrity of the process, parent requests for specific teachers cannot be honored. We ask that you respect our expertise in this matter and not include specific teachers' names on your parental form.
Classroom teachers, special educators, and the principal will meet to discuss all the information regarding your child, including the optional Parental Placement Information form and following this, will identify a classroom assignment. We strive to identify the best placement possible for each child.
In order to maximize the learning of each child, it is essential that compatible, balanced classes be assembled, reflecting what we know about the conditions under which each child best learns. Your child will be placed in a classroom in which he/she will be able to flourish academically and socially. We are confident that the comprehensive process used to determine placement will create classrooms that are as balanced and equitable as possible based on academic abilities, social traits, and individual needs. Your support in this process is greatly appreciated.
