Week of January 14th - 20th 2019

Hello Riverside County Families!

How was your first week back from a long winter break?

Audrey and I have hit the ground running with co-ops and field trips and so much fun! The new year is always a great time to try something new if you feel like your family is in a rut or struggling to make your current plan work for you. If this sounds familiar, try a class or new curriculum. Put a pause on something old that is just causing strife and replace it with an outing or a new way to learn the same thing. If you need ideas, please reach out to both of us. We love to help strategize with you to find the best homeschool lifestyle you can create for your whole family!

In this week's newsletter, we have a 'Curriculum Spotlight' on Unlock Math. Our 'Vendor Spotlight' is on Kid's Gardening Center. Make sure to read about both in this edition.

Also, be sure to check out Inspiration Station.

It is filled with so many amazing field trips designed by our HSTs and Liaisons just for you! Scroll through every so often so that you can see all that is being offered throughout Southern California!

Please reach out anytime and get to know us!

We are so happy to answer all of your questions and guide you through

learning about homeschool philosophy, curriculum, and the homeschool lifestyle!

Don't let yourself drown in worry or fear over homeschooling.

If you find yourself there, reach out!

We are hoping to connect with you soon!

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The State of California requires all public schools to administer the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) to students enrolled in 5th, 7th, and 9th grades. Inspire’s Physical Fitness Testing window is February 4, 2019, through March 21, 2019. We ask that parents bring their students to a test location and stay at the location during testing. Most students are finished in about an hour (test time may be a little more or less depending on the size of the location). For more information, head over here and for locations click here.

Inspiration Station Booking REMINDERS!

Did you know that you can log into your account on Inspiration Station to view ALL of your field trip bookings?? Checking my account is a regular part of my "Field Trip Booking Routine". I check this by selecting My Account from the drop-down in the upper right-hand corner of the Inspiration Station site. Here you will find all of the field trips you have booked. I advise everyone to always double check the field trip you had just booked by checking the amount and names of the tickets purchased. It's a great time to also input the trip date, time, and host contact information into your planner.

Happy Planning!

Utilizing Enrichment Certificates for Service Orders

Please make sure to submit your service orders 2-4 weeks prior to the start of services to allow for sufficient time for your orders to be processed. Once you have your enrichment certificate and give it to your service vendor, that is when you can begin your services.

This Week's Vendor Spotlight: Kids Gardening Center!

We are located in Riverside Ca, in the Woodcrest/Orangecrest/Mead Valley community. Currently, we service Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, Perris, Hemet, Colton, Temecula, surrounding areas and growing. We provide our services onsite or offsite at our customers' choice of location.

What we offer:

Kids Gardening Center offers gardening classes for children ages 2-18. We teach them how to plant vegetables from seed and they have the opportunity to transplant their seedlings once germinated into pots or garden beds. We offer individual, group, or private 6 week and 3 week sessions. Children take home between 4-8 plants (seedlings ready to germinate) per session and bring them back for transplant classes when ready.

Please check out our website at kidsgardeningcenter.weebly.com and view our class photos, schedule and descriptions page for more detailed information and examples of our classes. Attached below are 2 Inspire Flyers and One Homeschool Flyer. Please let me know if you need any more information or advertising pages created with more detailed class information. This Week's Curriculum Spotlight: Unlock math

Ceck out what this amazing math resource has to say from their website...

UnLock Math is the only homeschool math curriculum that combines the following in a multi-sensory interactive approach that gives your child their best opportunity for math success, unlocking their hidden math potential.

  • Unparallelled instruction through the engaging teaching videos of Alesia Blackwood breaking math into bite-size chunks that your child will find easy to understand and apply. Studies have shown that students learn & remember information better if they SEE the teacher working through a problem vs voice over type lessons.
  • Unlimited practice that allows your child to master the lesson regardless of their starting point.
  • Continual review that keeps new skills fresh, locking concepts into their long term memory.
  • Fully worked solutions after each question giving your child immediate feedback. This is invaluable in helping your child discover where they "went wrong" in questions they answered incorrectly.
  • Live chat support is a safety net for your child so that nothing is left to chance.
  • 30 day no risk money back guarantee.

How UnLock Math Works

Warm Up
Each day your child will begin with a short 5 question Warm Up covering material from the day before. This does two things. First, it's a quick check to let us know that they remember what they learned. Second, it helps their brain to switch gears into "math mode" getting them ready to learn.

Learn
Then it's time for the engaging video lesson taught by Alesia Blackwood, utilizing her unique style of breaking math concepts into bite-size chunks that are easier to understand & apply! Studies have shown that students learn & remember better if they SEE the teacher work through a problem vs voice over type lessons.

Practice
Next, we'll take them through 10 Practice Problem questions covering JUST what they learned in the video. After each question they view a complete solution so that they can compare their work to ours in case they missed a step, etc. If, after going through all 10 questions, they are ready to move ahead, GREAT. If not, they may open a NEW set of Practice Problems and we'll record their best effort for their grade. They can do this as many times as needed, we'll give them NEW questions each time! This allows students to master the lesson regardless of their starting point.

Review
After Practice Problems they move on to 10 Stay Sharp questions that cover material from previous lessons so that concepts the've learned are touched on throughout the year. This keeps new skills fresh, locking in concepts to their long term memory.

Challenge
We include a Challenge Yourself question that is a student favourite! It's a chance to earn "extra credit" and stretch their math skills for bonus points. Great for teaching them "outside the box" thinking when it comes to math.

Reference
Each lesson also come with Reference Notes that may be printed or viewed online.

Quiz, Review, and Test
Every two or three days students complete a 5 question Quiz after the daily lesson, making sure they don't need to review a concept before moving on. Unit concludes with a Unit Review and a Unit Test and we also give you a Mid-term and a Final Review and Test.

Auto Grading & Detailed Reporting
You have access to Grades and more from your convenient Parent Dashboard. You may view each attempted assignment, when it was completed, how long was spent on it, and each score. You'll also receive a weekly email of your child's progress.

Online Chat With Certified Teachers
A safety net for your child! We have teachers standing by so that when it comes to your child’s math education NOTHING is left to chance!

Audrey Everson

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!

We want to hear from you!
