News from the Nest

Week of 1/19-11/23

As we continue our nonfiction unit, we will be taking a closer look at the three types of nonfiction: literary, biography, and reference. We will discuss the kind of thinking done while reading each type. During independent reading students will apply strategies taught during the daily lesson along with strategies we have been learning throughout the unit.

Next week we will continue with our opinion writing. Each student will use the opinion checklist to reflect on the writing they have done so far. They will then set goals to focus on for their next piece of writing. Students will then choose an idea to develop into a persuasive speech.

Finishing our Unit 2 real world task took longer than expected, so we will be starting our fraction unit next week. There is a letter explaining our fraction unit in your child's Friday Folder. Information on how your child preformed on the pretest will come home next Friday.

We will take the quarterly STAR math test on Wednesday.

Students should be working on their Young Authors story at home. They are due back to school on February 11th. There is a letter in your child's Friday Folder with more information.

Our class has filled up our Warm Fuzzy jar for the second time this year! That is something to celebrate. On Tuesday, your child can bring a stuffed animal, no larger than their backpack, to school.

  • Reading log due on Tuesday
  • No School on Monday
  • The end of the quarter and final day to meet AR goals is next Friday
