Lincoln Bulletin
Yesterday was our first PTO meeting of the year, thank you for those that were able to attend. I am attaching the PTO newsletter and a form to complete so that you can be part of the directory. Please complete the form so your information will be included in the new directory. This often is used to help families connect and possibly plan ways for your kids to get together socially, along with ways the PTO can distribute information.
This weekend there are many local events you may want to attend. St. Charles East has its homecoming football game. I have also attached information for an event at a local park, see the pdf. for more information.

Introducing…
Since we have so many new staff members this year, we are introducing them via our Lincoln Bulletin. Our third introduction is Ms. Kappele, our Reading Specialist, below is what she has shared.
I have been teaching in CUSD #303 for over 15 years! I have taught early childhood, kindergarten and first grade. I have been an early intervention coordinator, reading specialist and principal assistant in different elementary buildings across the district. I grew up in St. Charles and I attended Davis Elementary, Haines Middle School and I graduated from St. Charles High School. I played basketball and soccer all 4 years of high school and loved being a Saint! I have three wonderful daughters (Amanda 27, Sarah 24, Hannah 20) and I will be a first-time grandma in November! I also have a dog named Izzy who is 14 years old!
I am very active and love the outdoors! I run most mornings before school and I love to hike! I am the volunteer director for the Fox Valley Kids Marathon and I enjoy volunteering in the community! I am looking forward to my new role at Lincoln for the upcoming school year! I am excited to meet new students and families and become a part of the Lincoln Elementary staff!
Cell phones and toys in school
I realize that for communication purposes, some students carry a cell phone or other devices with them to school. Our policy is that these devices need to be in backpacks and turned off throughout the day. This includes the time that students are on the buses. Teachers have been asked to remind students of this expectation. Please reinforce this with your child if they carry a cell phone.
Toys at School
We are asking that students leave fidgets and toys at home when they come to school. These items are not allowed in the classroom or out at recess. If your child needs a “fidget” for any reason, it needs to be an item given to them by a staff member for the purpose of supporting learning. Please take a minute to check your child’s backpack to ensure that they are not bringing their treasures from home.
Two Lincoln Volunteer Opportunies-
Fox Valley Marathon--WE NEED JUST A FEW MORE
We have an opportunity to sign-up to volunteer and raise funds for Lincoln on 9/22/19 at the Fox Valley Marathon in St. Charles. We need to have volunteers signed up by 8/27 to get all of our funds at the event. We committed to 10 spots for anyone 14 and older to volunteer in race village. Race village is located in the Blue Goose parking lot. Our shift is from 5-9 AM. I know that is early but the 4 hours go fast and it is very active in the village with runners and spectators!
Please consider joining the team today! You can bring friends or family and have them enjoy the early morning sunrise as well!

Volunteers needed in our bookroom-
Lincoln is organizing our new book room. We are in need of volunteers to help stamp and label books, and organize them into baggies and bins. This is a time-intensive job and we are welcoming parents to help us accomplish this. If you have time please reach out to Ms. Kappele- amy.kappele@d303.org. Thank you.
FROM THE SECRETARY
DISMISSAL INFORMATION
Your child’s safety is our primary concern. The standard procedure is that a note is to be sent with your child on the morning of any change in that day’s dismissal. The office can only accept any dismissal changes prior to 2:30 pm.
Reminder: student drop-off via car is on the north side of the building (Illinois Ave.) unless it is past 8:40 am. Late students can only enter through the front of the building and must check in with the front office.
SECURITY: When arriving at the school, please buzz in at the front door
If you are dropping off items for your student, the items can be left on the table in the vestibule. Please fill out the form including your child’s name, teacher and description of item dropping off. Unless it’s an emergency, we ask that no items be dropped off after 2:00 p.m.
If you are visiting in the school, you will need to check in at the front office and have a badge printed out for you. Your driver’s licenses will need to be scanned into our visitor check-in system to do this. If you are new to Lincoln, or did not do this last year, please have your license with you the next time you enter our school so that we can put it into our database.
LUNCH INFO:
