GJM Family Connection
April 2022
Spring at GJM
Remember to continue to learn as a family. With the upcoming holidays, that is a good time to have your student ask a relative questions about their life or a time in history. It is also a good time for your student to be the teacher, they can show you how they are doing math problems or tell your about a science experience, or ask you questions about a story you are reading, or be able to tell you about something that happened in history. You can also learn on the go, with family outings, listen to free concerts, look at art, find a way to protect the environment. Learning is always all around us.
We will have a fun family learning night APRIL 12 at 5:30-7:00. We hope to see you there!! It will be in our cafeteria, gym, and computer lab. We will have a variety of fun stations for you and your student to experience. We will be doing a drawing for a gift card for those that get to come and complete the stations. We will also be selling pizza and sodas.

Helpful Tips to Share with Your Child on a Computerized Test
Don’t Stress your teacher has prepared you with the tools
necessary to handle the STAAR or any other computerized test.
Read the directions carefully and ask questions if you need help with instructions.
Budget your test taking time. Students have four hours to complete the STAAR test.
Relax when feeling stressed, stop and take a couple of deep breaths. Stretch your legs or your position. Think about something that makes you happy. Try your test again.
Get Unstuck: If you go blank, skip the question and go on. Come back to it later!
Don't panic when students start submitting their test. Everyone finishes at their own pace and it doesn’t matter who finishes first. There's no reward for finishing first.
Multiple-Choice Questions: Think of your own answer first before looking
at the choices provided. Or eliminate two answers immediately to
narrow your choices.
Open Ended Questions: Read the question carefully to make sure you
fully answer the question. When finished, check over the answer for things like spelling, capitalization and you put enough information to answer the question completely.
Positive Self Talk such as: I can do this, I am smart, I will try my best.
A positive attitude goes a long way.
Do your Best: Make sure you are doing your best work on your test. Think clearly, read carefully, and put forth your best effort.
