Weekly Update
January 9-13, 2023
Message from the Principal
We had a nice return back to school, the two days helped us get back into the swing of things so we are ready to come back for a full week next week!
A couple of reminders:
We will continue doing our Monthly Celebrations at the end of the month. In order to earn these students must have no F's, no more than 5 missing assignments and have no more than 2 trips to the principals office. Below are somethings we do during the day and and offer after school to help students stay up on their work:
After School Program Monday- Thursday from 3:30-4:30 pm. This is a great way for your student to get caught up on missing working, getting extra support from teachers and get their grades brought up. If you would like your child to attend please reach out and let us know.
Power Hour- Monday- Wednesday during Tiger Time, students who have 2 or more F's in a core class are placed into Power Hour instead of their regular Tiger Time so they are able to bring their grades up. We do grade checks every Monday morning so students know if they need to attend Power Hour or not. For students who have had to attend Power Hour for 2 weeks in a row they will be required to attend the after school program so we can work more with them on their assignments and missing work.
Breakfast and Lunch
Tuesday- Pancakes -- Chicken Strip Wrap or Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad
Wednesday- Cini Mini -- Burrito or Taco Salad
Thursday- Biscuits and Gravy -- Country Fried Steak or Ham Cobb Salad
Friday- Bagel -- Tomato Soup (No Salad due to late start)
Connecting with the Counselor
This quarter, we will be working on Career Exploration. 5th Grade will do a unit where they learn about different careers and how their interests and abilities can influence their career choices.
6th and 7th Graders will spend some time using our online Career Exploration Platform -- Xello. They will take several surveys to match them with potential career options based on their interests and abilities.
The 8th Graders will get to do our Job Shadowing Experience where they get to go out into the community and spend the morning shadowing someone in their chosen career field. We did this for the first time last year, and it was a HUGE success. This will happen on Wednesday, March 8th. In the weeks leading up to this, they will complete several activities that will prepare them for the workforce.
As always, I will be sending out things to discuss with your student about your job and prompt conversations with them about what they discovered about themselves!
