SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH
With a major presence in Council Rock's Draft Strategic Plan, Student Wellness is woven into district goals for 2019-2023. As such, we will continually share pertinent information that aligns with our student wellness mission. The following information is not only helpful, but also timely as we recognize National Suicide Prevention Month.
Throughout the United States, individuals and organizations are stepping up to recognize September as Suicide Prevention Month. Open discussion about suicide is critical to prevention, intervention, and post-vention. How we talk about these subjects makes a difference. Here are some tips that may help when engaging in courageous conversations.
· Avoid using judgmental language.
· Use objective terms for suicidal events, such as “death by suicide” or “non-fatal attempt.”
· Avoid using the words "commit” or “complete” suicide. The phrase "committed suicide" is usually associated where suicide is considered a sin or a crime, which suicide is neither. Using the words "completed suicide" conveys success or accomplishing something good, which suicide is not. The proper term for someone who has taken their own life is "died by suicide." Also acceptable is "killed him/herself” or "took their own life."
· Avoid presenting suicide as an inevitable event or oversimplying the cause.
· Avoid glamorizing deaths by suicide.
· When discussing the frequency of suicide, always emphasize the importance of every single life.

2019 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH FALL FESTIVAL
2019-2020 represents the 50th year for Council Rock North High School. CRN will have events commemorating this milestone throughout the year. To begin, the Class of 2020 is re-inventing the Fall Festival. The rain or shine event will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019, tentatively 9 am to 2 pm.
CRN has invited representatives from local governmental agencies such as Fire, Police, EMS, Township services, and more, requesting each bring a vehicle with which children could interact. North’s teams are being asked to send a small group of players to man tables, offering a small game similar to their sport for the kids to play. CRN uses this event as a fundraiser for its yearly operations and will be offering various foods and beverages.
Perhaps the biggest change to the Fall Festival is you! CRN is looking to organize a Craft Fair for local vendors to share their passions with the community. If you are interested, please contact the Class of 2020 advisor, Dave Diehl or click here for a vendor form. The cost for a space is $50.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be part of CRN's 50th Anniversary party!
