Prestons Post
Term 2, Week 2
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to our second week of Term 2. The term has started off well and I have been proud to see wonderful learning taking place in every classroom each day.
ANZAC Ceremony
I was very proud of our student leaders who led a very respectful ANZAC ceremony on Tuesday this week. Thank you to Mrs Kellner for organising this day for us. It was a great privilege to welcome Justin Williams who played the Last Post and Rouse during our ceremony and James Martin who spoke to us about the importance of ANZAC day and his experiences serving in the defence force. I was very proud of our students who showed great respect throughout our ceremony. Thank you to our families who sent along flowers and wreaths to lay at our flagpole.
Spare Clothing
From time to time our students need a change of clothing due to accidents or other mishaps. We are currently running quite low on supplies and would greatly appreciate it if items are washed and returned to the office. Any donations of school uniform items that your child may have grown out of are also much appreciated.
Mother's Day Stall
Thank you to our wonderful P&C for organising our Mother's Day Stall. Students are invited to bring along some money to purchase a gift for their mother, grandmother, aunty or other loved one in their life. Gifts will be priced up to the value of $5.00. Our Mother's Day stall will be held next Thursday 6th May 2021.
Learning
We are so fortunate to have received additional funding this year to support student learning through an intensive learning program. Mrs Kinnavong, Mrs Haque and Mrs Azzi work with students on the MultiLit and MiniLit programs and we have the lovely Miss Jess and Miss Leah help each day with reinforced reading. I love seeing Mrs Kinnavong and her students walking back to class each day chanting and blending sounds to make words.
Have a wonderful week and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning at school.

Classroom Chat with 1 Tigers
1 Tigers have had a great start to Term 2! We have been working hard in our learning space with ½ Zebras practicing our numeracy and literacy skills. During literacy lessons we have been focusing hard on segmenting and counting how many phonemes are within words. Within writing we have been focusing hard on including adjectives to make our writing even more descriptive. In between lessons we have been taking quality brain breaks, such as bubble breathing exercises, to allow for our ‘sifting sooty’ to be ready and focused. In mathematics we have been learning about length and area. We even got to create hand measuring tapes and measure objects within our classroom!
This Term, we will continue to grow and strive to do our very best. We are all so excited for the fun learning ahead of us!
Classroom Chat with 5/6 Kookaburras
This term 5/6 Kookaburras are unleashing their imaginations. We are learning to create stories that entertain the reader. We have started exploring how to use a sensational story starter which leaves the reader wanting more.
Whoosh! I stood near the mysterious door. Suddenly I heard a strange sound. I was solitary. Outside the trees were dancing, leaves cascading and the wind was howling like a wolf.
By Asraa
A life threatening decision had to be made. As they slowly crept up on me my heart was beating as if it had never beat before. My thoughts were slow. My feet felt faint!
By Arish
I ran to shelter shivering as the old man said come out, come out whoever you are. My heart pounding like a running cheetah. Then I looked up and I saw light.
By Mario
Whoosh! Darts fly from the walls, missing me by millimetres. The floor broke apart revealing a pond of crocodiles. An ancient artefact lay metres away from me, almost engulfed with flames.
By Aanav
5/6 Kookaburras are developing their confidence and passion for mathematics. In targeted numeracy groups we are continuing to explore a variety of strategies to help us solve addition and subtraction problems more efficiently. Science lessons with Mrs Marinovic are always fun, especially experiment time. We enjoy incorporating drama into our PBL lessons, we have been practising displaying kindness through our words and actions.
