Charlestown School Updates
For members of our learning community - Oct. 20th, 2017
WE'RE RIDE COMMENDED !!!
Only 28 public schools in RI are Commended, and only 18 elementary schools.
Commended Schools are the schools that are the highest performing in the state. You may recall that we were Commended three years in a row during the final years of the NECAP Assessment. After we transitioned to PARCC, we were not rated as Commended for three years. We have worked hard as a learning community to achieve Commended Status again and we are proud of this accomplishment!
The Rhode Island Department of Education uses categories and formulas to determine how all public schools in our state are rated.
- Student proficiency in ELA and Mathematics
- Performance gaps when comparing students who have special needs, limited english language and those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
- Student growth in ELA and Math (for gr. 4 comparing their scaled scores from Gr. 3 PARCC to Gr. 4 PARCC when compared with other students who had similar scores)
Each school earns points for each of the three categories.
We earned the highest number of points possible...100
We are one of only 6 Elementary schools in the state to earn all 100 points!!!
As as school we celebrated yesterday by playing our unofficial theme song, Katy Perry's "Roar", on the loud speaker.
# 4 Elementary School in RI for NECAP Science Scores
Additionally, the Chariho District scored as the #3 district in the state.
Wow, we have come so far as a district and we need to keep reminding others in the state!
Attendance Counts
Per the district attendance policy , we have started to mail attendance memos and letters.
We mail them home to families, even if we are aware that a family has been on vacation.
Please understand that we need to follow policy and provide this written notification and follow both the timelines and guidelines of the policy.
