Schimo's Class News
November went by way too quickly! It is impossible to believe we are into the holiday season. This month we focused on main idea and summarizing in informational text as we prepared for and successfully took our first district assessment. Our new unit is historical fiction, and we have just kicked off some amazing new novels in our Literature Discussion Groups. We are focused on theme and point of view. The end of the month brought us to the district writing assessment. Students love the testing topic which is writing opinion essays on whether or not people should travel to Mars. What a thought! During November we also continued to work on fraction and decimal concepts and order of operations. Our second district math assessment will take place during the last week before winter break.

Our Central Idea
We have finished up our first IB Unit of Inquiry. We focused on our Central Idea and spent time reflecting on how our location can impact the way we view things in the world.
Like a Scientist
We took a sample from a photo of the sky to analyze the brightness of stars.
Our unit began with a provocation. We looked at different portraits and wrote our first impressions to help us think about perception.
We took time throughout the unit to ask questions and find answers.
We worked from a theme of How the World Works.
