Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade

Week in Review...

We had a very productive week in Room 9! The excitement that is brewing about our Information Writing is amazing! These kids are so excited to research their topic, plan and organize their writing, and are anxious to get started! We had a few 4th grade students visit us to share their INFORMATION WRITING BOOKS that they created last year. It really helped us see the vision and end result of all the hard work that goes into this project!

Next week should be a "normal week." There will be excitement at SRE as the Spring Book Fair will be held in the Media Center. The students have time each day to shop. We will create our WISH LISTS on Monday, March 21. Feel free to send money in any day next week.

Here is what is planned for next week:

Reading: Unit 7 - What Forces Can Change Earth?

  • Cause/Effect
  • Generalizations
  • Determining the Central Message of a story

Writing: Information Writing

  • Creating a Table of Contents
  • Planning each chapter
  • Adverbs

Science: Rocks and Minerals

  • Testing minerals for magnetism
  • Comparing minerals
  • We will test over Rocks and Minerals the week of March 28-31

Math: Chapter 10 - Reflections and Symmetry

  • Line Symmetry
  • Frieze Patterns
  • Positive and Negative Numbers

Congratulations to Wells, Alex, and Dylan. They have tested out of OTTER CREEK! All students should be working on Division in Otter Creek. If your child is practicing his/her facts for 5-7 minutes each night, it will help progress through the Otter Creek levels. We will test over Chapter 10 (tentatively) on Tuesday, March 29. Chapter 10 is a short chapter. As usual, I will send a Study Guide home a few days ahead of time to give your child plenty of time to prepare for the test!

Special Helper & Room 9 Leader of the Week - HELENA!

Helena is a sweet girl who cares for others and works hard in class. She desires success in all she does, is a friend to many, and ALWAYS makes good choices! She is a student I count on as a role-model for others! I LOVE being her teacher!

Click on the NEARPOD link below. This is a lesson I presented (whole group) to the class using devices. It is very engaging and motivating for my students! We learned about adverbs last week, so this was the second exposure to this skill.

Science Vocabulary

Check out the Science Vocabulary that we are working on. In each reading unit, there are science or social studies words that go with the Big Question. I assigned each team three or four words to define, use in context, and find a picture to represent their word. It is hard for third graders to create a definition, but they are learning this difficult skill and doing a great job!
