Freshmen and Sophomores: PSAT INFORMATION
As in previous years, the counselors will be giving the PSAT (practice SAT) here at Southridge High School next school year. This test will be offered to current freshman and sophomores. So, if your sophomore is planning on attending college, it is recommended that you register your student to take the test.
The test is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2015 and it will be given in the high school auditorium during the school day. The cost of the test for the Class of 2017 is $14.00.
If you’d like to register your (current) sophomore for the PSAT, please send a check payable to SHS for $14.00, to the high school by the end of school. Please have your student give the check to Mrs. Fowler in student services.
For (current) freshman, those in the Class of 2018, the State of Indiana has traditionally covered the cost of the test. Therefore, we plan to administer this test to all of those students in the Class of 2018 who plan to attend college. In the event, the State of Indiana does not cover the cost of the test, we will notify parents who will then need to decide if they’d like to register and pay for their student to test.
If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Fowler at 812-683-2272 ext. 2209

Library Media Center recieves Grant from The Herald Endowment for Literacy in Honor of A.T. and Cecilia Rumbach of the Dubois County Community Foundation
Once again, Southridge High School is incredibly grateful for the generous grant to our Library Media Center from the Herald Endowment for Literacy in Honor of A.T. and Cecilia Rumbach of the Dubois County Community Foundation. This grant is sincerely appreciated by the students and staff.
The books purchased with these grant funds will serve as literacy enrichment and curricular support for our students as we work toward our goals of building a community of educated, caring individuals who will become lifelong learners.
Pictured above, students in Mrs. Boeglin's Biology I classes participated in the Hoosier River Watch Program and learned how to monitor the health of a stream. They measured several qualities of the water and helped submit a report to the state Environmental Protection Agency.
Above, Biology I students visited the Huntingburg Water Plant and learned how water is treated and cleaned to become potable.

DUAL CREDIT HELPFUL HINTS
Think about which college/university you might attend and look up:
a. Their transfer policies
b. Their general education requirements
c. Their major requirements
d. How many (if any) elective hours are allowed
2. COLLEGE GRADES ARE PERMANENT
Poor performance in a dual credit course could affect financial aid, scholarships, or put you at risk for academic probation. Potential employers will see your grades on your college transcripts, as will any graduate or professional schools.
3. MORE DUAL CREDIT ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER
Dual credit is most useful to the student when it applies purposefully toward an educational program or degree. Extra hours that don't transfer or apply to your program can actually harm you in the long run. Federal financial aid and many scholarships can run out after you've earned a certain number of credit hours - even if your degree isn't complete.
4. DO YOUR HOMEWORK ABOUT TRANSFERABILITY BEFORE ENROLLING IN THE COURSE
Dual credit is both and academic and financial commitment with some inherent risk; refunds won't be issued for courses that don't transfer.
5. BRING AN UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT FOR DUAL CREDIT COURSEWORK TO ORIENTATION/ADVISING
This will help your advisor build a freshman schedule based on the credit already earned.
6. BE SURE TO SEND AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT FROM EVERY COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY AT WHICH YOU EARNED DUAL CREDIT, SO THE RECEIVING INSTITUTION CAN EVALUATE TRANSFERABILITY.
7. PAY ANY BILLS FOR DUAL CREDIT COURSEWORK (IF THERE'S A CHARGE). Your transcript won't be released if you still owe money, nor can you enroll in further coursework at that institution.
Questions about dual credit in general or USI's College Achievement Program (CAP) in particular? Contact USI's CAP Office at 812-228-5022 or cap@usi.edu
