Principally Speaking
Happy December to all! I can't believe the end of semester one is nearly here. We are moving along well. We have a big month filled with final exams/tests as well as many fun activities too.
On the fun side of things, we are starting December out right with the 7th and 8th grade PTO Tailgate Party. The party will take place in the cafe prior to the Pack the House Night basketball game against Brownsburg East Middle School. The tailgate party PTO fundraiser will run from 3:30 PM-5 PM on Thursday, December 8th. The $10 admission price will include DJ, photo booth, spirit wear contest (with winner receiving $5 DQ gift card), hot dog, chips, water, a cookie, AND admission into the basketball game! Tickets will be for sale during lunch from 12/1 to 12/8.
As well, we will have spirit days during the week of 12/12 through 12/16. See below to know what students should wear in order to participate.
- Monday, 12/12 – “No Sweat Day” – Wear your favorite sweats!
- Tuesday, 12/13 – “Red and Green Day” – Wear your favorite red and green outfit.
- Wednesday, 12/14 – “Christmas/Holiday Hat Day” – Wear your Santa hats, elf hats, etc.
- Thursday, 12/15 – “Scarf and/or Christmas Jewelry Day” – Wear your craziest scarf or Christmas pins to feel festive.
- Friday, 12/16 - “Ugly Sweater Day” – Does this need an explanation?
On a more serious note, final exams, final projects, or presentations will take place in all classes in some form. Exams will not be given early, but may be made up upon a student's return in January. Below is the exam schedule for semester one.
- December 8 - Red Related Arts Classes
- December 9 - White Related Arts Classes
- December 13 - English Language Arts
- December 14 - Math
- December 15 - Science
- December 16 - Social Studies
Have a wonderful weekend! As always, I am honored and thankful to serve you and your students as the principal of Danville Community Middle School.
Sincerely,
Marsha Webster
Principal
LobbyGuard: Visitor Management System
Beginning Monday, December 5, DCMS will be adding a new security measure to our sign in process. The system, LobbyGuard, will be set up on reception desk and will take the place of our two sign-in clipboards. We will be using this system for both visitor management and student sign in/out. Below is information for both of these processes.
Visitor Management: When a visitor arrives to volunteer in a classroom, to have lunch or to visit a staff member, he or she will sign in at the kiosk using a driver's license or a state issued identification card. The system will then run a quick background check (see below) and will print out a visitor's badge when given an all clear. In the event that an all clear is not given, a designated staff member will determine if the alert is valid and if it should prevent the visitor from entering the building further. Please note that this system also requires all visitors to sign out at the kiosk. This step is important as we work to keep a secure environment through awareness of everyone currently in the building.
Student Sign In/Out: When a student arrives late to school or is to leave early, the parent or guardian will use the kiosk to sign the student in or out. This action does not require a driver's license or state issued identification card to be used at the kiosk. Please note, however, if the individual picking up your child is not familiar to our office staff, they will request to see ID for verification purposes.
We will continue to work to make each visit you make to DCMS a positive one, and we appreciate your patience as we implement this new process.
* The LobbyGuard system instantly compares the identity of each visitor with a national database of over 700,000 registered sex offenders. In the event a positive match occurs, the LobbyGuard software displays detailed informaiton about the actual sex offender, including a mugshot photo, height, weight, eye color, crimes committed, aliases and bodily markings such as scars or tattoos. This detailed information helps prevent the chance for a false positive identification.

Ernie’s X-mas Treat and Toy Drive
Does your child have overdue fines in the media center? Would you like to see those fines disappear? The media center will be giving students an opportunity to do this throughout the month of December with our annual “Ernie's X-mas Treat and Toy Drive". Students who donate items for this drive will have their overdue book fines deleted in the media center. Those students who do not have overdue fines can still donate items to help out with this drive. All of our donations will be given to Hendricks County Animal Control/Shelter. Please help us give something special to the animals for Christmas by encouraging your child to donate.
The following items are needed: cat litter, dog & puppy food, cat food, cleaning materials, and towels. Also if students would like to donate a special Christmas gift for one of the animals at the shelter they may bring in one of the following: dog & cat treats, dog & cat toys, collars and/or leashes. All items must be new.
Donation boxes will be in the media center. We will be taking money donations as well to purchase these products for the animals. Please contact Miss Seegers if you have questions about this program or how you can help. eseegers@danville.k12.in.us

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please email dcms4pto@gmail.com to sign up. Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success. If you have a few hours of free time, come help us out and join the fun! All profits will be used to fund teacher requests for DCMS.
PTO is kicking of its annual winter Box Tops and Campbell's Soup labels contest! The contest will run through January 9th to allow you time to collect them during your holiday cooking and baking. Ask grandmas, aunts, relatives, friends and neighbors to clip and save them for you too. It is worth your time because the winning class for 5th and 6th grade and the winning class for 7th and 8th grade will win $4 vouchers for our very own Royal Theater! The vouchers are good towards admission or concession stand. 7th and 8th graders please put clipped labels in a Ziploc baggie with your child's name and their 3rd period teachers name and turn in to their 3rd period teacher. 5th and 6th grade students please use your 1st period teacher. The winning teacher on each side will win a $10 amazon gift card! Start clipping, saving and turning them in. Who will the winning classes be? Who will the winning teachers be? If you want it to be you, turn in your labels! All Campbell's Soup labels go towards earning recess and physical education items. Box Tops are worth 10 cents EACH, and they send us a check that is used for teacher requested items.

The students used great manners! The 6th graders donated 2 boxes of extra canned goods to the Methodist Food Pantry and the leftover prepared food was delivered to Cypress Manor.
