Hard numbers define viable solution- Build Baldwin Now
Though the consequences of overcrowding are far-reaching and unpredictable, the causes are undeniable - and the case for an 8-mill property tax increase, our only viable solution, is backed by hard numbers.
As we begin an in-depth look at school district funding and continuing growth, here are 5 initial facts to consider and share:
fact #1
Enrollment in the Baldwin County Public Schools has grown by 6100 students since 2004 - by more than 3600 in the past five years alone. However, no new schools have been built since 2009-10. Why?
fact #2
As the state budget crisis of 2009 unfolded - the worst in 30 years - all new school construction was halted since no adequate source of local funding existed.
fact #3
In order to meet increasing demands for instructional space, more portable classrooms have been brought in each year with the total number in use climbing to 100 this past fall.
fact #4
According to an independent growth expert, that number will increase to 450 portables by the 2023-24 school year. ( Note: the 10-year growth projections for Baldwin County issued in 2005 by this same expert were off by only 39 students.)
fact #5
In a random-sample poll conducted in August 2014, Baldwin voters indicated that concern about current and future overcrowding in the public schools was the only reason they might remotely consider additional ad valorem funding; that is, only if it were earmarked for school construction, facility improvements and maintenance.

Anti Bullying Campaign
Take a Stand- pledge to be an upstander-
visit the Peer Helpers in the PE lobby each morning to sign the pledge and get you ribbon
An “upstander” is someone who recognizes when something is wrong and acts to make it right. When an upstander sees or hears about someone being bullied, they speak up. Being an upstander is being a hero: we are standing up for what is right and doing our best to help support and protect someone who is being hurt. In many ways, this is another word for being socially responsible.
Peer Helpers will show videos and lead discussions daily in academic focus classes helping to encourage students to be an upstander and join the bystander revolution. What is Bystander Revolution? Simple acts of kindness, courage, and inclusion anyone can use to take the power out of bullying.
