Drone Challenge Game #2 - Drone Darts
In last month’s edition of Tech Snacks, we shared information about our reimagined #SPARK event and the inclusion of three Drone Challenges. We also shared the first of four Drone Games that we hope coaches and classroom teachers can play with their students and use as stepping stones toward the more difficult drone challenges. This month’s game is Drone Darts.
Mission Game: Drone Darts
Team Members: Pilot, Co-Pilot/Navigator (or Coach’s arrangement)
Attempts: Multiple Flights
Task: Score points by landing on target areas. First team to 100 points wins.
Time: Not a timed event.
Equipment You Bring:
- Tello Drone
- Batteries, Charged
- Chromebook/Laptop with Droneblocks app
Overview: Pilots will plot a course to land on sections of the dartboard. Teams will add points to their total score after each landing. Teams may not go over 100 points for their total score. First team to 100 points wins the game.
Course Setup: Print out the Drone Dartboard and tape it together as numbered. The dartboard prints out as a 5x4 grid of 8.5”x11” paper. Place a Drone Launch Pad card a few feet away from the grid, centered on the middle of the dartboard, and tape it to the floor. Here is a smaller, poster-sized version of a Drone Dartboard.
Alternate Game Versions: Around the World by 10s - Work around the dartboard in a numerical sequence, starting from 10 all the way to 50. First team to 50 wins. Sudden Death - Each team is allowed 3 attempts to land their drone on the board. The team with the highest score after 3 attempts wins. If you have more than 2 teams playing, you could eliminate the team with the lowest score during the first round and then continue playing until you have only two teams competing.
Hope everyone enjoys the game! Tag @FCPSOIT on Twitter or use the hashtag #FCPSDrones to share your photos and videos.
