Preschool Around the Valley!
December 14th, 2022
Hello Families
What a beautiful winter wonderland we have right now!
There are only 5 more days to see smiling faces before our winter break. Here's hoping we will be back in person soon. There is nothing better than the smiling faces and laughter we share when we are together!
Attached are a few ideas and activites to do during these at-home days. We hope that some of the ideas or links are helpful. Please don't feel like these are a must. Just enjoy and stay warm and safe during these snow filled days!
Snowsuit relay
Time your kiddo on how long it takes them to put on snow gear. They could race mom or dad or siblings and the person they are racing could be putting on too small\too big gear to slow them down and make it fun. Laugh and enjoy!
Ask a Who question!
One of the most difficult question words for preschoolers is WHO.... this is just a question game to play at meal time, when they are in the tub or anytime you are just waiting around for something....make it into a game....of course, the sillier the better....start easy until they get the hang of it...
Who wears glasses?
Who has a beard/mustache/pony tail/ is bald?
Who loves dinosaurs?
Who goes to work?
Who likes mac-n-cheese?
Who likes Anna and Elsa?
Who can drive a car?
Who gets up early?
Who is silly?
Who eats all the popcorn on movie night?
You get the idea!! Just using a short, fun game to reinforce the understanding that the answer to a WHO question is always a person.... can be a person who doesn't live with you to make it a little harder....like grandma and grandpa, neighbors, friends, teachers, etc....
Go on a Gingerbread Man Hunt
Cut out a gingerbread man (paper bags work great for this!)
Decorate it together
Go on a gingerbread man hunt:
- Hide your gingerbread man and have your child look for it….make it fairly obvious.
- When they find it have them point/tell you where they found it. Restate it to them as specifically as possible ie: “You found it UNDER the table”.
- When you are hiding it think of specific skills to work on such as positions (on, under, next to, between) colors (It was on the blue pillow!) and other descriptive words
- You can also have fun with this in a silly way….”Why was he hiding in the kitchen? What do you think he wants to eat? The gingerbread man was in your bedroom? Does he want to play with something?
- Have your child hide it for you!
All about the Gingerbread Man!!
The Gingerbread Dance
Watch the story and have the kids do the actions (run in place as fast as they can, put their hands on their hips, etc.)
Gingerbread playdough
art activity: cut a gingerbread shape out of paper (brown paper if you have it or your child could paint, color, or use markers to make it brown or just leave it white). Give your child glue and let them glue on whatever they want to decorate their gingerbread man or woman or boy or girl. (ex: ribbon, yarn, fabric, cookie sprinkles, torn wrapping paper etc.).
