Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
January 11, 2017
Welcome Back!!
I hope you all had a great vacation. We are going full speed already here. Most of the students will be on a Lynx Track field trip this week, we have mid year assessments going on, and next Monday is a "no school" holiday, so things are back to normal.
I will include a "up coming events" section to this newsletter just to get everyone else back up to speed. Parent/Teacher conferences are just around the corner and Spring Break will be here before you know it so I want to make sure nothing comes up by surprise.
Thank you.
Doug Hayman
Please try again. It makes a difference to our school.
Due to the reduced 2016 PFD KPBSD Student Nutrition Services would like to encourage families that may have applied and were denied for Free lunches or qualified for reduced lunches but think they may qualify for free lunches to reapply after January 1, 2017.
If you have not applied for Free or reduced meal benefits for this school year and would like to know if you qualify, please fill out the application and submit.
Meal benefits applications may be applied for online at kpbsd.k12.ak.us the application is located on the Students/Parents page then scroll down to online meal application or you may pick up an application at any of the KPBSD schools or the Student Nutrition office at 139 E. Park Ave. Soldotna.
Lunch applications- please fill one out, even if you aren't sure
I am not usually on a big band wagon for folks filling out the free and reduced lunch application but we are right on the edge of a line of qualifying for funding of other programs. If the percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch in our school increases by 1.5% (that is really only 2 kids) it would push us past a line for other programs such as the Boys and Girls Club food program.
The applications are on line, only the lunch program would have the data, and even if you do qualify, you can still pay for lunch or send cold lunch with your child. Please consider it. Here is a link to the instructions. http://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/Workarea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=34604
Teacher of the Year Nominations
Good afternoon,
I hope that you will help us continue recognizing outstanding teachers across Alaska by nominating your favorite teacher. I have attached a couple of graphics for you to use on social media.
This year, in addition to honoring teachers for the 22nd year, we are excited to announce the introduction of the BP Educational Allies award, recognizing all the additional unsung heroes in our schools -- from teacher’s assistants, to counselors, Principals and more. Anyone can nominate a BP Teacher of Excellence or an Educational Ally by visiting BPteachers.com. The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2017.
I look forward to seeing nominations for all the exceptional educators making a difference in your school and community. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like additional materials.
Thank you and happy holidays,
Tara Stevens
