Health and Attendance Information
Pleasant Valley Primary School's Attendance Goal:
100% of our students will attend school 90% of the time.
What Does This Goal Actually Mean?
Chronic absenteeism is when a student is absent from school 10% of the school year or more. Since we have 180 days of school, this equates to 18 school days throughout the school year. This means if a student is absent 2 days every month, they will reach that chronic absenteeism number of 18 school days.
Health and Attendance Pamphlets
Attendance at school is a top priority for us at Pleasant Valley Primary as it is a critical component to student success both academically, as well as socially and emotionally. However, we do know that illnesses happen and that there are times where it is in the students best interest to stay home and regain their health prior to returning to school.
Please review the below pamphlets to gain insight as to the Battle Ground School Districts policies around when students should and should not attend school due to health and illness.

Monthly Focus: Skills For Learning
This month, our school wide theme is skills for learning which include listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements, we'll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners.

Week 3 (October 15 - 19): Using Self-Talk
This is another great week for learning at our school. An important skill for learning is using self-talk. Self-talk means talking to ourselves in a quiet voice or in our heads. Self-talk can help us stay on task and focus attention. Think about what self-talk you might use if you were trying to remember directions your teacher gave you. Remember to use a self-talk today when you need to stay focused and on task!

Week 4 (October 22 - 26): Being Assertive
Learning means doing something new every day. Sometimes when we're doing something new, we get stuck and don't know what to do. If we get stuck, we can use a skill for learning-being assertive-to ask for help. Being assertive means asking for what you need or want in a calm, firm, respectful way. Face the person you are talking to, and keep your head up and shoulders back. When you can't figure out what to do in class, remember to be assertive and ask for help.
