The Burruss Weekly
A Note from Dr. Johnson
August 25, 2021
We have a lot going on next week! Please make every effort to get your child to school on time, preferably by 8:15, but at least by 8:30.
The entire school will take MAP Reading and MAP Math three times each year. Next week will be our fall test administration. On Tuesday, August 31 at 8:45am, students will take the MAP math test. On Thursday, September 2 at 8:45am, students will take the MAP reading test. This data is critical for teachers to use to meet your child's academic needs. Please encourage them to try their very best, and we will do the same here on campus.
Vision and Hearing Screening K-5
Our district has recently partnered with Vision To Learn, a non-profit organization, to give free eye screenings, exams, and glasses (if needed) to our students. Prior to conducting eye exams, Vision to Learn will come to Burruss on September 1st and prescreen all students on site. Follow up eye exams with a Vision To Learn doctor will be scheduled for any student they have determined needs to be referred for glasses. As a healthcare organization, Vision To Learn will be following expert guidance to minimize COVID-19 risk. Health and Safety Practices. If you do NOT want your child to participate, please communicate this request to your child’s teacher.
Meals at School
Breakfast and Lunch are served at no charge for all students this year. To see what is being served, check out the MealView app and search for our school.
After the first day of school, our district is not allowing visitors in the building who will be interacting with children. Please contact Dr. Johnson if you have a need to visit the building or volunteer in a space or time that would not interact with children.
Dismissal Plan for your Child
If you need to make any changes to that plan, please email ALBtransportation@marietta-city.org or call the front office, and the front office will document the change and communicate that change with the teacher. We cannot accept transportation changes after 2:40pm. Please do not communicate transportation changes during the school day directly with the teacher. They are busy teaching and monitoring children--let the front office manage the process to make sure your child gets where s/he needs to go safely!
Child Illness Protocol
If your child is exhibiting any cold- or flu-like symptoms, please keep him/her at home. If your child has a fever of 100.5 or has vomited, s/he may not return to school until s/he has been symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
Please notify the principal ASAP if your child tests positive for COVID-19 or is identified as a close contact in your family. The sooner we have the information, the better plan we can provide here at school.
We are returning to our SGT-approved school uniform policy this year.
Solid white or blue collared shirt or ALB or MCS logo shirt or PTA spirit wear.
Denim, navy blue or khaki-colored pants, skirts, dresses, jumpers, skorts, shorts (fingertip length or longer).
If a student is not wearing clothes that fit our policy, we will send home a note.
We can't wait to see you next week!
