News & Notes from Josiah Haynes Elementary School

September 23, 2021

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It's been an incredible week to be part of the Haynes School community! On Tuesday, the United States Department of Education recognized Haynes School as a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School. We are proud to be one of the five schools honored in Massachusetts and are humbled to have the hard work of our students and teachers, as well as the support of our families and the wider Sudbury community recognized and celebrated. Click here for our announcement. I plan to officially share this news with our students during a special virtual all-school meeting on Friday morning.

Since the news was released earlier this week, the Education Secretary's official announcement was released, which includes specific mention of all schools recognized. You can view the announcement here.

Part of our success is the dynamic home/school communication in service to our students. Please read on for more information about virutal Back to School Nights and Parent/Teacher Conferences—two great opportunities to share information about the teaching and learning taking place at Haynes. In addition, I encourage you to consider joining me tonight for our September Haynes Principal Forum (tonight at 7:30 p.m. on Google Meet: meet.google.com/pwe-dwcq-akm).

I look forward to connecting with you in the days and weeks ahead around the great work taking place at Haynes School!

Virtual Back to School Nights to be held September 28 & 29

Mark your calendars! Sudbury elementary schools will host virtual Back to School Nights, scheduled by grade across the district:

Tuesday, September 28

6:00-6:40 — Kindergarten

6:45-7:25 — Grade 1

7:30-8:15 — Grade 2

Wednesday, September 29

6:00-6:40 — Grade 3

6:45-7:25 — Grade 4

7:30-8:15 — Grade 5

Your student's classroom teacher will share a Google Meet link with you prior to the session's scheduled time. Other information typically shared at traditional Back to School Nights will be shared by the principal at the start of the week.

Parent/Teacher Conference Signups Coming Soon

In the coming weeks, classroom teachers will be in touch with families to invite parents to sign up for fall parent/teacher conferences. Conferences will be scheduled between November 1 and Thanksgiving break. We're planning for conferences to be in-person, though we are able to accommodate virtual meetings by request. Look for your invitation to sign up soon.

COVID Testing Resumes across SPS

Sudbury's schools this week resumed routine COVID safety checks through the use of weekly COVID pool testing. This is one of the several, layered mitigation strategies we employ to keep everyone safe. At the time of this writing, only 72% of our students are signed up to participate. This is a sizable start, but still the lowest in the district. We have room to increase this participation. Parents can sign up at any time. Click here to participate.

Support this month's collection for the Sudbury Food Pantry

Our inaugural monthly collection for the Sudbury Food Pantry is Friday, September 24. Items will be collected at morning arrival. Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause!

Haynes Photo Day is Tuesday, October 5th

(Rain Date is Friday, October 8)

How to order your photo package:

Click: https://beebystudios.orderschoolpix.com/46211

  1. Enter Your Childs Name (Be sure to select the right name if multiple names appear in the search)
  2. Enter Your Email Address
  3. Password field is NOT required
  4. If you have multiple children at the school, you will need to create a separate order for each child so that we can identify and match your child’s photo with your orders.

Note: It will be very unlikely that your child’s name is not listed on the website. By way of example, if you have a child named “Sammy” please check Samuel or Samantha or try searching last name. Correct name selection upon entering the website really helps our photographers on photo day and with processing your order.

Print / Package Options and Discounts (Available for Pre-Orders ONLY)

  1. Discounted PRE-ORDERING is available up to and including October 1st, 2021
  2. There are three tabs at the top of the order page (Packages / Prints / Products)
  3. Our most popular and best value items are the Packages, but we have made some individual print items and / or high-resolution digital download options available too.
  4. All Packages include a 5 x 7 Class Photo
  5. FREE SHIPPING is automatically applied to your order for the following Packages:
  6. If you have more than one child at Haynes, there is a Second Sibling FREE SHIPPING available. You must ADD “PACKAGE S” to your order for the Sibling Discount to be applied
  7. All initial orders will be sent directly to the address you enter on the order form.

Tips for outfits

There are no rules for outfits (within reason) but in our experience, muted tones will always work best in photos. The backdrop our photographers are working with will be green and brown trees and vegetation. Collared shirts or blouses with a jacket or cardigan work well too. Some things to avoid are super bright, bold, strong colors, big patterns, logos etc. But these are only suggestions and of course, ultimately, we want your students to have fun, and to feel comfortable and happy.

What if we are not happy with the outcome of our child’s photo?

  • We always offer a reshoot date once all photo packages have been distributed.
  • Alternatively, we offer a full refund if you can’t make the reshoot date.
Do you submit the photo to the school yearbook?

  • Yes! We take care of all that for you.
I forgot to add the sibling discount with my order!

  • Please send an email to info@stuartbeeby.com and provide your order number. You will be refunded for the additional delivery charge
Did you receive my order?

  • Once you place your order, you will receive an order confirmation to the email address you provided. This confirms that we have your order!
Can I order more photos?

  • Yes! We reopen the website once all pre-orders have been shipped and it will stay open for 12 months for any additional orders
I forgot to order my child’s photo package. Can I still order?

  • It is always best to pre-order your package for the discounted pricing. However, if you forgot to order, we re-open the website after all pre-order packages have been shipped and you can order the photos you would like but they will be at the standard pricing.

Mindfulness Tools Come to Haynes Thanks to SERF

The Haynes Mindfulness Working Group is a collection of staff members who promote the importance of self-awareness and self-regulation strategies throughout the school. This year, through a SERF grant, teachers will be provided a “Mindfulness Toolbox” for their classrooms. These toolboxes will include a Hoberman sphere or “breathing ball,” as well as chimes to use during mindfulness practice. These tools will enhance the SEL work being done in the classroom and benefit all. Thank you SERF for your support of this important part of our program!

Welcome Kim Dean!

Kim Dean joins Haynes this week as our newest Special Education Teaching Assistant. Ms. Dean comes to Haynes from the Marlborough Public Schools where she has served in a similar role for the last decade. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Dean to our team.
