Happenings at FEB
Slime Time in Fifth Grade Science 5th Graders completed their final investigation of a science unit studying the structure and properties of matter. Through this investigation, the students were able to make slime while observing what happens when two or more substances are mixed. During this cross-curricular activity, the students were also able to strengthen their vocabulary skills by using descriptive words to compare their control group and variable group. It may have gotten a bit sticky, but it sure was a ton of fun! | Science Expo- Day 1 On Day 1 of the Bellows' Science Expo, third grade scientists shared their projects/experiments with teachers, classmates, and family members. There were so many interesting topics studied by students! To see more photos from this fabulous event, please visit our social media pages! | Science Expo- Day 2 On Day 2, fourth and fifth graders who wanted their experiments judged for Tri-County consideration did so in the morning and then all fourth and fifth grade students shared their projects with teachers and other classes in the afternoon. Then last night, we announced the qualifying experiments. |

Important Reminders
Teacher Parking Lot
There have been many cars dropping off children in the parking lot on North Barry. I kindly remind you that this is NOT allowed. The only cars and people who should be using the lot on North Barry Avenue are FEB staff. Please do not pick up or drop off your children in this lot. Thank you.
Access to the FEB Playground
I understand the need to burn off energy and get in some additional physical activity for children after school and it is a courtesy that we allow families access to the blacktop area at dismissal. However, there are some guidelines for being on district property that you may or may not be aware of.
1) Families are allowed access to the playground area from 3:20 pm to 5:00 pm. We kindly ask you to exit the property by 5:00 pm. A custodian or other staff member can ask you to leave the property at that time.
2) Students MUST have adult supervision to be on school grounds. Children should not be on the playground without someone 18 or older supervising them. If you have been allowing your child to stay unsupervised after school, we ask you to stop doing so. We will send them home if they are seen on school property without an adult present.
3) No one is allowed onto the field. The field is off-limits during this time. Its main function is for athletic events and lunch/recess during school hours. If your child is caught climbing the fence to gain access, we will ask you to leave the premises.
4) The 5 Be's at Bellows still apply when on school grounds. Please ensure that your child is adhering to these important pillars of positive behavior when they are interacting with others.
The 5 Be's are:
*Be Safe
*Be Respectful
*Be Responsible
*Be Kind
*Be Mindful
New Attendance Procedure
- If your child is going to be absent, please email the main office at alaychak@ryeneck.org or call 914-777-4600.
- If your child is reported absent by his/her classroom teacher, and you have not called the office, you will be notified via the automated system to verify the absence.
- In case of severe, contagious disease, pediculosis (head lice), or prolonged illnesses, please notify the school nurse. It is our procedure that the nurse notifies parents of children in the class regarding exposure to a contagious disease.
- For COVID procedures, please refer to the district’s 2022-23 Operation Plan.
- Students experiencing a fever must be fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine before returning to school
- If your child becomes ill in school and needs to be sent home, the nurse will notify you at the emergency phone number provided. For this reason, it is important for the school to have parents’ work numbers/cell numbers, as well as an additional one or two emergency numbers of neighbors or close relatives.
- It is important that children arrive at school in time for the opening bell between 8:35 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Arriving late (8:50 a.m.) after morning routines and instruction have started is disconcerting to a child and disruptive to the class. Plan to give your child a smooth beginning to his/her day by scheduling ample time for early morning procedures.
- If you need to remove your child from school for any reason during the school day, please email or call the main office first.
Teacher Webpages
Have questions about what your child is learning in school? If the answer is yes, you can always take a look at the teacher webpages for all of the units of study in mathematics, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Our Special Area teachers have them, too!

RULES FOR LOCKER DECORATING
Bellows loves to recognize and celebrate students, especially on their birthdays. We do ask that you adhere to the following guidelines when asking to decorate a child's locker:
- The office staff must be notified at least 24 hours ahead of time. Please email April and/or Jami during school hours to let them know, and include the names of 1-3 students decorating. (Only one parent needs to email.) alaychak@ryeneck.org or jsheeky@ryeneck.org Please do not email Mr. Scarantino directly.
- In the instance that we have emails for two (or more) groups of students to decorate one student’s locker, only the group in the first email received will be allowed to decorate.
- Students can decorate starting at 8:20 am, or after school, from 3:15 to 3:30. After school, students must be accompanied by a parent
- Maximum of 3 students decorating per locker
- NO BALLOONS (they set off the sprinklers)
- Students can decorate the outside of lockers only; students (or parents) can not open another student’s locker at any time
- Candy and sweet treats included in the decorations should be limited. Just what may fit on the outside of the locker without being excessive
- Please keep in mind, lockers are small, and decorations must be able to fit without limiting the function of the locker and/or touching the adjacent lockers
- Students who celebrate birthdays over the Summer will be invited to decorate at the end of June.
