Torrey Hill Intermediate School

Newsletter for February 2022

Hello Torrey Hill Families!

Thus far, Mother Nature is pouring on winter. Thank you for being flexible during these days when our district leaders are having to make difficult decisions about delays and cancellations. Safety of students, staff and community is always their first concern. Now that we are in February, the temperature is keeping us on our toes. Students may only go outside when the ¨feels like¨ temperature is 10 degrees and above. Please dress them appropriately and let us know if we can assist in getting you any items.

Last but certainly not least, I want to thank our PTO for their work in providing the Santa's Gift Shop experience for our students. They spent countless hours throughout the year with shopping, sorting, planning and then executing in late December. Thank you for all you do!

Food Service Updates

The food service department is happy to be able to provide all meals to all students for free this year! This is a government grant that allows us to do that. Along with the grant money there are guidelines we must follow. This grant allows for only one complete breakfast and lunch per student per school day.

A breakfast includes: 2 Grains or 1 grain and one protein item, 1 cup fruit/vegetable and Milk. To be a complete meal 3 out of the 4 items must be taken and one of the items must be a fruit or vegetable.

School Lunch is made up of 5 food groups. These groups are whole grain, protein foods, vegetables, fruit and milk. To be a complete meal, three out of five food groups must be taken and one must be a fruit or a vegetable.

Only one entrée is allowed for both meals. Students may purchase additional entrees or meal components at ala carte pricing.

Any questions please feel free to contact the Food Service office at 810-591-9449 or email at

HELP WANTED! Academic Interventionists, Aides and Recess/Lunch Aides

We are in need of Academic Interventionists (one at $20/hour). We are also still on the look out for lunch/recess aides, and interventionist aides. Feel free to share this request with neighbors, friends, grandparents, recent college grads, etc. Please see the job postings below.

Please visit the link above for access to openings in ALL buildings. If you have questions about any of our job postings, please contact the building principal, Mrs. Conover.

Important Message- Reading and/or Math Support Is Available!

Our school has a team of teachers and aides who provide reading and math interventions to students who qualify and may need additional assistance. Some students receive interventions throughout the school year while others may only need help from time to time. We have trained staff who can provide these necessary interventions.

Students who receive this support, often referred to as Title One or LLI, are not removed from core instruction. Instead, they mainly receive support during non-instructional times such as silent reading time. The interventions are conducted in both small group settings and/or within the general education classroom. You will be informed if your child is receiving these services so please look for a special “Parent/Student Compact” coming soon.

If you do not want your child to receive this support, please contact either your child’s teacher or Mrs. Conover, principal by October 2, 2021. (This information has been previously shared).

If your child will need any type of medication for the school year you must have your doctor complete the forms below that pertain to your student. Any questions, please call the Torrey Hill office. 810-591-3617

Change In End Of Day Pick Up?

If your students need updates from you (parents/guardians) on taking a different mode of transportation home, please call our office before 2 PM. We do our best to get all "change in transportation" messages delivered to the students at the end of the school day and we certainly do not want any errors.

Any bus changes must be approved by the principal at least 24 hours in advance. Students are not allowed to take alternative buses home unless their is an emergency situation. Please do not use bus transportation as a means of transporting friends for after school social or extracurricular events. Our buses have capacity limits and we cannot add students to bus routes. We care about the safety of our students and therefore must closely monitor ridership on our school buses.
