BMES Family Weekly Update

Week of March 20-25, 2022

Big picture

Message from Principal Wagner

March 20, 2022

Good evening BMES Families,

This week, we are hoping to remind all families about the upcoming spring break holiday. Our students will have an early dismissal on Friday, April 1st at 12:45pm. During the week of April 4-8, Bethel Manor Elementary will be closed for spring break. Please enjoy the time with family!

Also, we have noticed an increase number of germs at school with the stomach bug and seasonal allergies. Per the YCSD student handbook, if you know your child is ill, please keep him/her at home to ensure the health and safety of our school community. Your child will be sent home and/or asked to remain at home or if any of the following signs/ symptoms are present; fever off 100 degree F or more, vomiting, repeated diarrhea, inflamed or draining in the nose, and/or persistent cough/sore throat.

All students may return to school if they are symptom free for at least 24 hours without the use of medications, to include over-the-counter fever-reducing medications.

We appreciate your support to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. In addition, I encourage all parents to remind their children about handwashing habits as we have seen a large increase in stomach illness.

Lastly, if you haven't already done so, please don't forget to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application to ensure your family is eligible for benefits here at school and linked to education. This form is a federal form and should support families as they might PCS or relocate out of the area in the future.

Have a wonderful evening,

Mrs. Wagner

Free Tutoring

As part of the division's efforts to address unfinished learning in accordance with the ARP Act ESSER III funds, the York County School Division has partnered with FEV Tutor to provide students in grades 3-12 with free, 1:1 online tutoring. In addition to supporting coursework and homework in core subjects such as math, English/Language Arts, science and social studies, FEV Tutor offers support for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.

Along with the on-demand support, FEV Tutor also offers weekly sessions between 7 and 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on weekends so families can select the times that work best for their schedule. To get started with e-tutoring, students should log in to Clever and locate the FEV Tutor app icon to get started. They can then schedule sessions and access live help at any time of the day.

While all support is live and personalized to each student's classes and needs, the program does not involve device cameras or microphones - instead all interactions involve a whiteboard and chat feature. Students will be able to share their screens and upload documents to review with tutors, and tutors only have access to student work provided by the individual student. Once a student is signed up for weekly sessions, FEV Tutor may periodically email families and students (aged 13 and older).
