Mr. Macken's Message
Centerville Families,
Thank you for joining our volunteers and staff to support your kids during I Love to Read Month. It has been an exciting and fun week, and I have loved seeing all the creative ways teachers engage students in reading. From kids reading with flashlights in the dark to creating a music video about reading or being part of a book group led by a volunteer and being proud of their progress in their grade-level reading challenge – everyone is having a blast!
I appreciate you encouraging your kids to read or reading with them as they develop their reading skills. You truly are making an impact!
Enjoy the long weekend.
Go Cougars!
Mike Macken

Use reading as inspiration for family activities
The next time your elementary schooler has to read a book for school, plan a fun family adventure related to the book.
For example, after reading a biography of Benjamin Franklin your child might learn that Franklin supported fire departments. As a family, you could visit a local fire department in honor of Franklin's work.

Centennial Preschool Registration Opens March 1
The Centennial School District offers high-quality part-day and full-day preschool experiences. Preschool classes are designed to prepare students, ages 3-5, and families for success in kindergarten, practicing both academic and social skills in a “learning-through-play” philosophy. Full-day classrooms are located at each of the elementary schools in the Centennial School District; part-day classrooms are at the Early Childhood Center. Our preschool has earned a 4 Star Parent Aware Rating. Registrations received between March 1 and March 22 will be included in the placement lottery. Registration will remain open after the lottery for remaining seats. Program and registration information can be found on the district’s website.

We want to hear from you! Reminder to parents/guardians to complete the annual survey—look for an email send on February 1 with the survey link. The survey is short—takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. The survey is open until Sunday, February 18.
