All Aboard with Second Grade!
May 2019
Ahoy!
The fourth quarter of school is off and running! We have completed our end-of-the-year MAP testing for the year and will begin PALS and DRA testing on May 13th! You can help your child do his or her best by making sure your child gets plenty of sleep at night and arrives at school on time every day. We still have lots to cover so please encourage your child to stay focused and do his or her best at school!
Our math goal for the last quarter will be to build fact fluency with addition and subtraction facts. Those students who master their math facts (0-20) will be invited to a big schoolwide math celebration at the end of the year! (Every grade level is working toward a different goal.)
We are also continuing to build reading fluency. We are working to have all our readers at DRA level 28 or above by the end of the year. All 2nd grade students should be reading aloud to an adult every night for 15-20 minutes to strengthen reading skills. If you need help acquiring books or reading materials, please reach out to your child's teacher.
If you are feeling giving, please consider donating reams of paper to your homeroom teachers! We have run incredibly low and still have many instructional days left!!
