WEEKEND EATS
STAYTON HIGH SCHOOL "WE" PROJECT
Weekend Meals For Hungry Students
Weekend Eats (WE)
The Weekend Eats (WE) project has been successfully piloted at Stayton High School this spring to respond to students who have been identified as not having adequate food available over the weekend. The district has supported this pilot through the end of the school year. Due to the thoughtful and successful implementation of the project by Wendi Nyquist, CTE Program and Drop Out Specialist, the response of our students has been incredible. These students are feeling greatly valued and connected with their school. We believe this project will continue to build a great school culture!
How does it work?
Students are identified and approached by staff with a great deal of sensitivity and caring. Arrangements are made to discreetly deliver weekend breakfast, lunch and dinner in easy-to-make meals at the end of each week.
What is the need and cost?
Currently, we are consistently serving approximately 25 students. We believe we have a need that approaches 50 students. Current costs to feed a student for an average month is $30 and $270 to feed them all year.
How can you help?
The WE project is looking for cash donations to be able to continue and expand the program next school year. The funding goal is $15,000. Tax deductible donations can be made to the WE Project, Stayton High School and delivered or mailed to the school or the North Santiam School District Office. All donors will receive a receipt letter for tax purposes.
