The Harllee Highlights

Harllee ECC Family Newsletter--- Week 2 8.26.22

Principal's Message

August 26, 2022

Greetings Harllee Families!

Thank you for a great first two weeks of school! The year is off to a great start! Teachers and staff are continuing Super Hero Training Camp as they teach routines and procedures. Ask your Hawk if they have made it on our Super Hero Wall. Teachers have also began beginning of year assessments to capture where our students are, so we can begin targeted small group instruction. Please reach out to your child's teacher for more information on your student's beginning of year data. We are excited to offer after school clubs this year so your Hawk can ignite their Super Power. Please see below on the information for the clubs we will be offering. In order to have space and availability for students to participate, we ask that students select ONE club. We will revisit this if there is additional space available. If you have questions about clubs, please reach out to Ms. Vanessa Smith, our Student Activities Coordinator at vansmith@dallasisd.org.

Mensaje de la directora

Agosto 26, 2022

Every Hawk Every Day! Good Attendance Starts Now!

Did you know?

  • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks. • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance
  • Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.

Attendance Law

The Texas State Compulsory Attendance Law requires students ages 6 through 19 to attend school. Section 25.085 requires students to go to school each school day for the entire school day unless exempted by law. This requirement includes students who have voluntarily enrolled in prekindergarten or kindergarten and students who are nineteen years old or older.

Students who violate this law may get referral(s) for court proceedings against the parent, guardian or student to enforce the law.

Violation of the law occurs when students get unexcused absences for 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period.

Partial Absence

Students are required to attend school from the time the school day begins until the time the school day ends. A partial day absence occurs when a student is not present for part of the school day.

A student who arrives late or leaves early will get a partial absence.

The school will decide whether the partial absence is excused or unexcused using the same standards for determining the status of full-day absences.

PLEASE SCREEN YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH DAILY

Please screen your child/children every day before coming to school by checking their temperature and determining if they have any of the following new or worsening signs or symptoms of any possible contagious illness, including COVID-19. If your child has any of these symptoms, your child should stay home, and you should contact the school and notify them of your child’s absence.

● Cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing ● Loss of taste or smell

● Fever of 100.4 or greater ●Nausea/vomiting or diarrhea

● Chills/repeated shaking with chills ● Muscle aches/body aches/fatigue

● Sore throat ● Headache ● Congestion or runny nose

Immunization Records

Up to date vaccination records are required for all students attending school. Vaccination records should be up to date, no later than 30 days after enrollment. This past week, I sent out letters for students who were missing vaccinations or who have an incomplete record on file. If you received a letter, please provide the nurse with an up to date vaccination record as soon as possible. You can send a copy to school; you may bring the record and we can make a copy, or you can send a clear photo of the record to mcorral@dallasisd.org.

Thank you for your help!
