The Good News-Oct. 31
Saint John XXIII Catholic School 2021-2022
All Hallow's Eve: Halloween
All Hallow's Eve
All Hallow’s Eve, or Halloween, is the vigil of All Saints (All Hallows) Day, which is a major feast on the liturgical calendar and a Holy Day of Obligation. Halloween (October 31st) is connected with All Saints Day (November 1st) and All Souls Day (November 2nd). These three days are the “Days of the Dead,” a triduum also known as Allhallowtide or Hallowmas, reminding the faithful of the reality of heaven and hell; the communion of saints; and our obligation to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Evidence of Learning: Where are we? Where are we going? How will we get there?
What is an Evidence of Learning Portfolio?
It is just that, a brief collection of your child's learning that is connected to the learning outcomes and objectives for you to tangibly see and discuss with your child. Evidence of Learning Portfolios can be hard copy portfolios, digital or a hybrid of the two.The Evidence of Learning portfolios, as well as Three-Way Conferences, are key checkpoints in your child's learning journey.
What can you expect to see?
Evidence of learning communicates student strengths and areas of growth in primarily the core subjects (Religion, ELA/FLA, Math, Science, Social) and is aligned with the curricular outcomes.
It is a combination of teacher feedback and student reflection to provide parents with the opportunity to be more aware of and involved in their child’s progress.
Why is this an important part of the learning journeys?
Evidence of Learning provides a snapshot of the development of thinking, understanding, and mastery related to a particular unit of study, concept, skill. It supports student metacognition, is related to their own learning, and increases parental awareness of their child’s strengths and areas for growth.
The evidence gives more fine-tuned and detailed information than a level of achievement or daily or weekly communication of pictures and activities
Thank you for your continued commitment to your child's faith and education journeys!
