Youth Ministry Connection
Zion Lutheran Church 9th-12th Grade
September 2022
Dear Sr. High Family,
I pray your families are settling into somewhat of a routine for this fall semester!
This is the first newsletter since NYG and Youth Takeover. NYG was an amazing experience for our group. What a blessing to be able to worship and serve alongside students from around the USA! We enjoyed an End of Summer Swim Party at the Bachman's house (Thank you, Bachmans!) and Youth Takeover was a neat way for our students to be involved with our Zion family in worship. The start to school is always fun as we get to hear our 9th graders talk about their new world in high school. I know high school can be quite a transition so as we started Connection Hour this past Sunday, we built in some time where students talked about the week's highs and lows. We will continue to do so each week to allow them time to process what is going on in their lives with fellow Christ-loving teenagers!
After Labor Day, we will begin our Fall session of our LIFE group. Last Spring we went through the 5 Love Languages and how our love language affects every relationship in our lives. Now we will be narrowing our focus and will go more in depth in the area of dating relationships. We will be going through the study "Love Is" by Bianca Olthoff. More info below!
Please let me know if you guys need anything! I continue to hold our awesome high schoolers and their families close in prayer!
Blessings,
Sherlyn
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.

Fall Wednesday Night LIFE Group
Our Fall Series will run September 7th-November 2nd. We will not be meeting on Sept. 28th or Oct. 19th. This fall we will be going through the "Love Is" Series. We will be sharing a meal, going through the Love Is study, and connecting with peers! We will be meeting up in the Youth Room. Please RSVP by THIS Sunday, September 4th if you plan to attend this series:

Details will be emailed out on Monday, September 6th to those that sign up.
Parents: LIFE group is for those students that want to go deeper into God's Word and how it relates to their day to day life. The expectation for this group is that it is a commitment and will be a priority in their week for the duration of the 8 week cycle (of course there is flexibility for things that come up unexpectedly – life happens!). The goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment for the students to grow deeper in faith and form a Christian support system for one another. There will be longer discussions and periods of sitting, so not all students are ready for this environment…and that’s okay! Please help your student decide if this is a good fit for him/her.

Parenting Corner
Parents, are you ready for your teen to date?
Great Question! Ask me in 20 years! Just kidding. Sort of.
Our fall LIFE group series will be focused on this topic. The series that we will be using as the prime foundation for our time together is "Love Is" and can be found on Right Now Media. I will also be pulling in some other supplemental clips, articles and information from other trusted Christian resources depending on the evening's topic. The discussion guide that will be a blueprint for our time together is available as well on the "Love Is" link. We will be addressing the Biblical definition of what love is, singleness, how to date as a Christian, what real intimacy across all relationships looks like, positive communication in dating, and God's design for sex. I would encourage you to watch the series as well! Below is the link and log in info. I know that every family has their own guidelines, thoughts and ideas on dating and relationships. Please watch these so that you can talk openly about dating with your teen (if you haven't already) and share your family's thoughts and wisdom on this topic. Our prayer is that if we take the time to have an open and honest discussion with our students and allow them to share their hearts with us, then they will listen to what our thoughts are!
