From the Head of School...

Dear Summit School Community,

Think of the many experiences your children engage in each day at Summit School. They learn from extraordinary teachers how to think critically. They create. They collaborate to solve real-world problems. They engage in learning activities that peak their interest, foster academic excellence, and inspire a lifelong passion for education. They learn to respect differences and resolve conflicts while being kind and caring toward others. And, our Summit School students experience all of these things in a community of caring and supportive teachers, staff, and parents.

During our spring auction event, Summit's Casino Royale Gala & Auction, you can help Summit continue to grow and achieve success by sharing your financial support as generously as possible.

All proceeds go to directly support Summit’s educational experiences and operations to help us move forward together (e.g., teaching and learning materials, technology, professional development, facilities, etc.). We hope each of you will contribute to this event by joining us on April 30 from 6-10pm and raising your paddle for the maximum amount you are comfortable.

Thank you for all you do.

Great Learning Opportunities Coming to Summit!

We are excited to announce three great new middle school learning opportunities coming to Summit School in 22-23!

  1. We have a Japanese Exploratory Language elective that will be offered all four quarters to begin in the fall. Our new teacher, Miss Chanpraphap, will be the instructor.
  2. We will also offer a class on American Sign Language as an elective. This will be taught by Mrs. Mauermann.
  3. Mr. Preston and Dr. Nardi will be team-coaching a middle school team of students as they work on HUNCH Prototype and Design 2022. HUNCH (High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware) is a high school level opportunity, but Summit students have been invited to participate and we are already set up with our NASA mentor. Mr. Preston is a perfect choice to coach as he attended a NASA Space Camp for educators in 2013. This opportunity will take place in enrichment time during the school day. A cap on team size may be determined at a later date.

Spread the word! Summit's offerings are growing and we are eager to meet the needs and interests of our students.

Diversity & Inclusiveness Committee

The D & I Committee met on April 5. We read through student and staff definitions of both diversity and inclusiveness to develop what will be our working "definition" at Summit School. See below. This definition will be used to drive decision-making moving forward with regard to offering educational opportunities and revising policies. If you would like to share your thoughts, please do so here. Thank you.

Summit School acknowledges and celebrates the unique differences within our community. Summit is committed to education and policies that support an inclusive environment.

AVOID fees! Please return all library books by May 13!

The week of May 2 will be final check-outs from the IDEA Lab. All books need to be returned by May 13. Any books that are not returned by May 13, the Business Office will invoice the book replacement fee to your family FACTS account.
