Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ April 5, 2019
From Mrs. Wohlfiel, Interim Principal
Welcome back to school and to the fourth quarter of our 2018-2019 school year! We are in the final stretch! I hope everyone has found time for rest and relaxation, as spring is upon us!
We are in the midst of selecting new members for our Stone Bank office team! The interview teams, comprised of staff, school board members, and administration, will be meeting with the candidates for both the district accountant and district administrator/building principal positions early next week. This Wednesday, April 10 at 5:30 p.m. we will be inviting all members of the community to a Community Forum. Look for a Skylert detailing the process for Wednesday evening. We are hopeful to be able to announce our two new team members before the end of the month.
Public Service Announcement - Keep an eye on your charging electronics! On the first Saturday morning of spring break, I plugged my personal computer in and set it on the kitchen counter to charge. Less than three hours later, my computer literally exploded, causing a small fire. My husband came into the kitchen to investigate the popping noise and saw the flames. He grabbed a hot pad, unplugged the computer and picked it up to carry it outside. Before he could get to the door, the computer popped again and he dropped the computer on the floor. He eventually got through the door only to drop it again on our deck when it popped for a third time. See picture below.
I would hate to think what would have happened if we were not home. We are very lucky. Please keep an eye on your charging electronics and especially avoid charging on or near flammable items. My hope is that through my experience, I can help others to stay safe.
Today was the last day for Mr. Andrew Davies, one of our playground supervisors. We appreciate his dedication to the safety of our learners and the relationships he developed over his time here. The Stone Bank family will miss him!
Andrew’s departure means we have an opening for a playground supervisor. We are looking for someone (or multiple someones) to help us on the playground, or indoors during inclement weather, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you are available to only do one day, we could possibly accommodate that. If you are interested in becoming part of our team, keeping our learners safe, and earning some extra money, please contact me as soon as you can at (262)966-2900 or l.wohlfiel@stonebank.k12.wi.us. I look forward to speaking with you and setting up an interview.
As much as we would like to accommodate our families and their schedules, we need to ensure our students are safely supervised at all times. All staff members are responsible for the safety of our students on school grounds. Please keep this in mind when dropping off or picking up our Stone Bank learners as the safety of our learners is of the utmost importance.
We ask that all families please pick up their learners immediately following dismissal, which is at 2:30 p.m. The fifth through eighth grade learners who are attending ninth hour Monday through Thursday in the library should be picked up no later than 3:30 p.m. As a kind reminder, ninth hour is for productive work time, such as homework or group projects.
This week also included several conversations about bathroom expectations, how to use the toilet, what goes in the toilet, what does NOT go in the toilet and what to do if items are discovered in the toilet. Please review expected bathroom behaviors with your child(ren).
I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me either via email (l.wohlfiel@stonebank.k12.wi.us) or phone (262)966-2900

All middle school, administrative, and office staff have read this article to that we can all best understand and support our adolescents at Stone Bank School. We invite you to read it as well!

I Love to Read Month Reading Contest
Our school’s top reader this year was Theus Diorio with a total of 6,650 minutes read. On the first day of the month, Theus told Mrs. Brannan that he planned to wake up early every morning to read because it was his goal to be the school’s top reader. Way to go, Theus!
The classroom that read more than any other this year was Ms. Roberts’ 5th grade. Their key to success was that almost every student participated - every minute helps! Along with the rewards of healthy brains, increased vocabulary, and bragging rights, 5R has earned a class reward for their dedication to reading.
On behalf of the entire Stone Bank staff, we want to thank all who participated in the reading challenge. We are so proud of our students and hope that love of reading continues through 4th quarter, into the summer and beyond. As always, if you have questions about books and reading, are looking for recommendations, or have ideas to share, please contact Mrs. Brannan in the library (d.brannan@stonebank.k12.wi.us).
