Van Brunt Elementary

March 2017

Dear Van Brunt Families,

Well, March certainly came in like a lion!! I'm glad we had a bit of spring before winter came back in full force.

It was great to see so many of you at our Warm up with a Good Book family literacy night. We know this is such a busy time of year with sports and other family activities. Your dedication to your child and to Van Brunt Elementary is evident! We appreciate your involvement in your child's education and have enjoyed many conversations about how to best meet the needs of every learner.

As you can see from this newsletter, there are a lot of exciting things happening at Van Brunt Elementary. We are so proud of our hard working students and dedicated staff and families. By continuing to work together, we will achieve great things!

Sincerely,

Lisa Sawyer

Van Brunt Principal

Congratulations to our February POPS winners! These students were recognized for showing COURAGE. Even when decisions were difficult, these students had the courage to do the right thing and set a great example for their classmates. It was heartwarming to hear how each student was recognized. Many students also enjoyed special prizes in the Caught You Being Good raffle drawings. Keep up the great work!!

Spring Conferences

Teachers will be scheduling conferences with all students this spring. Conferences will be held on March 9th and 14th from 4:00 - 7:30. If you do not yet have a conference scheduled, please contact your child's teacher. This is an important time to discuss the progress your child has made this year and goals for the final quarter.

Website

You may have noticed that our website has a new look! A team of Crystal Hechimovich, Mike LeBouton, and myself, worked behind the scenes over this past summer and first semester of this school year to give our website an updated look. Our goal was to create a more user friendly website that is visually appealing. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have navigation questions.

Parent Night

Join us Wednesday, March 15th to learn the importance of connecting with your child before you correct them!

Based on a model developed by the Center for Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning at Vanderbilt University, this overview is focused on promoting the social emotional development, understanding children’s challenging behavior, and using positive approaches to help children learn appropriate behavior.

As the parent, you are your child’s first and most effective teacher. Learn how to harness that influence to the best of your ability!

You do not want to miss this free and educational event! We hope to see you there!
