Dancing with Horses: Integrating Dance/Movement Therapy with Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy
HorseAbility Center, SUNY, Old Westbury Campus
Jackie Ashley, MA, LPC, BC-DMT
When we watch horses move, we are riveted. We see freedom,
power, dignity, beauty, grace, and incredible ease of natural
movement—all qualities we might long for in our own lives. Working
with horses provides unique opportunities for contact and touch,
creativity, and empathy. In this daylong Master Class, participants will
learn new ways to process feelings in their own bodies. Knowing the
core emotions and where they reside in one's body can facilitate
self-acceptance, empowerment, and positive change. Participants will
observe the movement of horses, and then express those movements
in their own ways. Beginning with practical movements performed with
horses, such as grooming, they will expand on these movements to
create and share a "dance," or movement sequence, of their own, and
then share it with each other. In this way, participants will learn unique
and creative ways for working with individuals and groups, varied
populations, and therapeutic situations.
10:00 am - 5:15 pm
Moving with The Selves: Integrating Voice Dialogue & Dance
Therapies
New York Voice Dialogue Institute
161 West 54th Street, #804 (near 7th Avenue)
Dassie Hoffman, PhD, DTR-BC, LCAT
This experiential, daylong Master Class is designed to illuminate a
myriad of ways to integrate movement and music in Voice Dialogue
Therapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings. An introduction to
Voice Dialogue and the Psychology of the Selves will be reviewed,
followed by a series of exercises exploring movement and music
approaches. Together, the group will explore 3 different types of music
that support and enhance this work, including music created especially
for the Dancing with the Selves process, and then explore self-created
percussion music, as well as commercially available music. The Selves
in Motion is powerfully experiential, designed to teach professionals
how to enhance their therapeutic repertoire and develop new skills. No

Enhancing Therapeutic Communication, Response, and Interaction through Alexander Technique
Balance Art Center
34 West 28th Street, 3rd floor (between Broadway & 6th Avenue)
Ann Rodiger, MA, M-AmSAT, RSME
Judith Muir, MM, MAmSAT
with Kathy Cass, MA, BC-DMT, NCC, CYT
This experiential Master Class is designed to help enhance how you respond physically to your clients. It will show you how to pause, and respond purposefully to whatever overt or covert affect or content comes your way in the course of a session. Observing yourself in this way is inspiring, centering, and helps you maintain both energy and poise. The Alexander Technique focuses on core principles related to moving and thinking that can facilitate choices for positive change. These include concepts such as awareness, inhibition, and direction. Throughout the day, we will work in small groups and pairs, observing ourselves and each other in this process. We will consider our overall tension response, breathing, eye focus, sense of the ground, length of stature, and vocal production. No previous experience is required; dress for a day of moving, and a moving day!

Constellation Body Intelligence: Toward Creative Freedom &
Response-ability through Sound and Movement
Executive Conference Center • 1601 Broadway (enter on 48th Street)
Kathlyn Hendricks, PhD, BC-DMT
Audrey Hazenkamp, MA, Cert. Master Coach
There are times when the echoes of past experiences interfere with
one's full presence and participation in daily life. Constellation is a body
intelligence practice that can liberate individuals from their Inner Critic
through the healing power of sound and movement. In this half-day
experiential workshop, participants will learn how this practice can
promote mindfulness and resilience, providing access to the innate
wisdom of the body. Participants will learn how this somatically-based
healing process can nurture in-the-moment presence and
self-acceptance by playing-through rather than working-through.
Constellation invites us to respond to life rather than react from past
survival strategies, potentially generating new levels of creative
freedom. No previous dance experience is required.

PanEurythmy and Dance from Eastern Europe: A Supreme Cosmic Rhythm
Executive Conference Center • 1601 Broadway (enter on 48th Street)
Elissaveta Iordanova, MFA, MA
This dance workshop will explore the unique role of dance in Eastern
European culture, as well as its universal relevance as a resource for
transformation. Through dance, video and discussion, we will examine
the potential of dance to promote individual and cultural identity,
illuminate socio-political-historical conditions, and bridge connections
between diverse people and with nature. Particular emphasis will be
paid to the work of Beinsa Douno, an early 20th-century mystic.
PanEurhythmy, a form of circle dance he created and practiced
outdoors with large numbers of people in the Rila Lakes region of
Bulgaria, was developed to awaken a global consciousness. Douno saw
PanEurythmy as a “science and art to attune human beings.” Its focus
was on harmonizing inner forces and directing people toward a more
conscious life. Workshop participants will learn the basics of this dance
form and its clinical potential, especially for dance/movement and
other creative arts therapists.
2:30 - 5:30
Chinese Medicine & Expressive Arts: Holistic Treatment for Developmental and Behavioral Disorders
Executive Conference Center • 1601 Broadway (enter on 48th Street)
Wang Chunhong
Andrea Gollub, MA, ATR-BC
Zang Xiang is a theoretical system used in traditional Chinese medicine to organize the relationship between the human anatomy and its physical expressions. Through primarily experiential engagement, this half-day workshop will introduce the fundamental principles of Zang Xiang as it relates to the general practice of expressive therapies, and specifically to ASD. According to Zang Xiang, the human body is composed of Zang-organs and Fu-organs, which form an internal system that culminate into visible expressions. Furthermore, this biological system is connected to the external realm of sound, color and movement, creating a holistic experience for the human being. Case examples will illustrate how autism can be better understood and treated by using this trifocal model of relationships between physiology, pathology, and environment.
4:10 - 5:30
Embodied Experience: Expressing Life Stories through Dance
Executive Conference Center • 1601 Broadway (enter on 48th Street)
Kathleen Rea, MA EXA, Psych CERT, OACCPP CERT
Participants will explore embodied experience through dance in this 80-minute workshop using methods developed in the speaker's work with therapeutic performance facilitation. Discover how playful engagement of body awareness and dance can enliven one's connection to the world and those around them. Life experiences will begin to be expressed through movement and shape, and participants will feel the power of nonverbal communication to express the human condition. Participants will have a chance to perform the dances they have created together, however performance is not mandatory. Both the roles of witness and performer are equally valuable in the process of this workshop. This workshop is accessible for people with no dance experience and will also be informative for people with extensive dance experience.
