8th Grade Registration
Please spend some time going over the high school booklet with your son or daughter. Use the sample registration form to help figure out the classes they would like to take. Every student is required to take a Language Arts, Math, and Science class. It will be beneficial for students to focus on their elective classes.
Franklin Media Coverage
Bolt Jolt is a student run coffee shop in its first year of operations at Franklin Middle School. Students in the Behavior Focus classroom started with an idea and made it a reality. Every Monday and Friday morning students make baked goods and coffee products for teachers in the building. Students are given a specific job (lattes, fresh drip coffee, or deliveries) and fill orders that are placed online. Students then personally deliver all orders.
Students help to plan menus, keep track of the finances of the company and make all treats and drinks. Students organize and interpret sales and brainstorm what they think teachers will want to order the next week. Students also learn valuable life skills such as cooking, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and appropriate social interactions.
Students involved in the coffee shop have shown less incidents of inappropriate behavior while they are working in the coffee shop as well as when they are attending other classes. Student attendance has also increased for students working in the coffee shop. This also has helped students to make connections with all staff in the building and become an integral part of the school community.
G5: Girls are the 5th FUNdamental Force MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
The Women in STEM Club at Coe College is looking to start a mentorship program for girls who are interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) fields and want to enhance their education. Our goal is to support, encourage, and inspire girls to pursue STEM careers. We want to act as mentors and big sisters for these girls to help guide them throughout their education. Women in STEM will clarify homework concepts, meet with students as a group, introduce them to current undergraduate research, and increase STEM possibilities!
Program Dates: Feb 12, Feb 21, March 19, March 26 from 3-4 PM at Franklin Middle School We plan to offer laboratory tours, and interactive experiments on April 7 from 9-11 AM at Coe College for all participants to collaborate!

Winter Sports Recap
7th Grade Girls' Basketball
The season for the Franklin girls 7th grade basketball team could be summed up with the words "Hard work pays off". The girls started the season 2-1 going into the Christmas break with wins over Wilson and Roosevelt. After the break they faced the daunting task of taking on the very best teams in the area three of which were undefeated prior to our match up. The team worked hard defensively and found their offensive stride. Although they dropped games to Taft, Excelsior and Regis, they gave up the fewest points and held a tighter deficit than other teams they had faced previously. The Bolts to finished the season 4-5 with wins over McKinley and an impressive victory over Linn-Mar Oak Ridge. The Bolts gritty play and determination was definitely the theme of the season.
